He's certainly the most expendable commodity in the top 6 which I think is probably where it comes from. He also isn't very flashy, he tends to slow the game down rather than play at top speed which can be frustrating to watch when things don't go right.

He's a quality offensive player, he'll never be elite, but he's a mid tier 1C or a high end 2C and given the way the B's are constructed he's a really good fit.

Mark my word, if this season is 10 goals or less, he is a candidate to be bought out.

This blog is not very well thought out, by the way. Clouts seems to be going for a cheap shot, and is inordinately thin-skinned in the responses. Also, Esplen is literally the first trolling comment in the blog. It's all so stupid, and I wish Cloutier would take a deep breath before posting on his medication days.

Even if Hemsky only tallies 10-15 goals this year (as Henrik Sedin has done in over half of his NHL seasons) and we don't buy him out, Spatso will claim not that he wasn't in fact "a candidate to be bought out" but that the Oilers have made a grave mistake in not buying him out.

In all truth I wouldn't be against adding Hemsky, I wouldn't give much up for him though.

IMO, You have the money. You have the room. You need offense. Then a 1 yr gamble on Semin is a Good move. I only wish our cheap a$$ owner would have taken a gamble on him for a yr. We may have squeezed 100 plus goals out of our 1st line.

But Cloutier is a homer.

He scored 10 goals in 69 games last season. It works out to $500,000 per goal. If Edmonton put Hemsky on waivers, who would pick him up?

Steven Stamkos scored 60 goals in 82 games. He is the gold standard of production. It cost $125,000 for each Stamkos goal.

Semin was not a great bargain, his 21 goals last year averaged out at $319,000 per score.

Of the top scorers, Jordan Eberle looks like the best bargain in the league. His 34 goals works out to $34,068.62 per goal (roughly 6.8% of Hemsky's goal production cost). Do not have bonus information computed for Eberle.

Pacioretty for Montreal was also a great deal. His 33 goals averaged out to $49,242.42 or 9.8% of the cost per goal for Hemsky.
