Fan voting is the best. That's why my Mike Komisarek All-Star jersey is so special.

Hey Richard...you need to do some research before you blog.

Car was well below the cap floor, so they needed to find a way(s) to get up there. Spending 2-3 mil over what Semin is worth is a ZERO risk way not only gettting a talented player, but also getting closer to the cap floor.

Semin wanted a multi year deal which would have been less than 7 mil, probably 5-5.5 if it was for 2-3 years. Car can now give him a chance to earn that multi year deal....if he doesnt, they just dont re-sign him.

Reading mindless blogs like this shows why most bloggers are lame at best.

My God some people who read my blogs have challenges. This is a perfect example.

Why in the crap would Carolina worry about getting to the cap floor when the CBA is going to BLOW UP the salary structure of the league? Word is, the cap floor concept will be completely modified or perhaps gone altogether.

Carolina DID NOT do this to get to the cap floor. Seriously, people should really think before they post comments on my blog, saying how I need to do more research. When stupid people try to point out how stupid I am, it's embarrassing.

Semin will go to Carolina and get 40 goals, Hemsky will be hurt by game 20.

contract is fine, maybe about a million to much, but fine.

I think Hemmer only has 2 shoulders , given enough healing and rehab time a player having shoulder surgery usually recovers 100 % So unless the Oil can get a bonafide top 4 Dman they are better off keeping him.

Semin has yet to play 80 games in his career. Soooo you are saying this is the year he plays 98% of the games because he has never done so before, and that hemsky will only play 52 because he like semin is injury prone just a little more injury prone so will only play 63%? yeah, makes perfect sense kid

Whats embarrassing is when you feel the need to slam a team or player with basically no reason for doing so. A one year deal comes with zero risk and they had the cap space.

Perhaps the value Semin has is in February, at the trade deadline, when the Hurricanes will be out of the playoff race and can unload him as a rental for a late 1st round pick or something.

Look at that sentence beyond even the moronic grammatical error. Carolina adds Staal and now Semin and they are suppose to be out of the playoff picture by January?

Have you ever actually formed an opinion about a player outside of the Oilers that didn't come directly from the MSM? It's been fairly well proven that Alex Semin's on ice effort or lack there of, is mostly hype. The lazy stuff comes from a comment a fringe 4th liner made about Washington's best players during a playoff run.

Hard statistical data and people who actually watch the Caps play on a regular basis have backed him time and time again.

Then you find it necessary to find some sort of link between Hemsky's value and Semin's value that gives you reason to attack the player and the team he signed for? I bet Carolina is perfectly happy with 20-40 goals added to their roster for nothing more than a one year contract.

Get a grip seriously.. Pathetic rant level writing as usual.

Well at least you had a complete thought and typed it out accordingly. That's a step in the right direction. I guess that's probably similar to people wondering which team will be worse next season : The New York Islanders or the Oilers huh?

Should be a fun season with some new and old questions to ponder.

Not a bad deal for Car. If what you said was correct Richard and they are out of the playoffs by the deadline and can get a first for him, then, in todays nhl, the 7 mil is almost worth it. low risk gamble with a reward for the gamble not paying off. I agree that attitude cancels out hemskys injuries. but the extra year DECREASES Hemskys value, not improves it. Semin is a gamble, Hemsky an investment. On that note, I am so so so so glad semin aint a pen. (and as a pens fan, I might be willing to take a gander on Hemsky at the deadline if he isn't to expensive (1st rounder if he stays healthy and has a decednt year or lesser value if his health is still in question))
