Possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read... How do you not understand this?
Dan Cathy is one person, and I'm judging him because of his ignorant comments. You don't have to meet someone to tell if they're an idiot or not... Their words/actions speak for themselves. - laughs2907
So because he does NOT share your view on Gay Marriage, he's an "Idiot". So who is the intolerant person here?
Is Dan Cathy trying to force you to share his views on Marriage? Is boycotting those who do not share his views on Marriage? Is he just living his life based on his religious beliefs and is not trying to convert those who believe in Gay Marriage over to his point of view? Is he insulting you because you don't share his view on marriage?
Take a long look in the mirror my friend, because you're the one hurling insults because there's someone who does not share your beliefs. |

*Sigh*
This has nothing to do with whether we share the same views... This has everything to do with respect for innocent human beings.
When Dan Cathy says something like, “ I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about.” He's an idiot... Not for having a different view than I do... He's an idiot for the comment he made. It's as simple as that.
And no, he's not insulting me... But I do think his comments towards homosexuals are very rude, and once again... Idiotic.
Seriously though, how can you not grasp this? I don't judge innocent people... I simply stand up for those being treated unfairly. If you can't understand that, I feel sorry for you. |

Dan Cathy is NOT treating anyone unfairly. He has his religious beliefs, he is entitled to them and he lives his life accordingly.
Dan Cathy is the one who is being treated unfairly, because people like you want him to denounce or alter his beliefs.
People like you, who want him to come over to your beliefs are the ones who are calling him names, insulting his belief system and organizing boycotts.
Why is it that those of you who support the "Gay agenda" are always condemning those who do not share your views?? Has Dan Cathy done anything close to that?
Why is it that when someone has a different belief system than the Gay community, they're instantly labels as homophobic or an idiot, simply becasue they don't fall in line with the Gay community??
Where are the quotes of Dan Cathy insulting Gays???
Also, don't you believe in freedom of speech and religion??? |

You don't find someone saying they prey for mercy for someone, and calling them "prideful, arrogant", judgemental, condescending, and insulting?
Seriously?
You don't think talking about "having the audacity to redefine what marriage is all about" is imposing his view of what marriage is about on us?
Really? |

Dan Cathy is entitled to his interpretation of what marriage is. He is "praying" for those whom he believes (right or wrong) are on the "wrong path".
How many people have been hurt or insulted by someone praying for them? If I prayed that you saw the light and became a Senator fan, how would that affect you negatively?? You probably would just shrug it off and move on with your life.
Why can't those in the gay community just leave him alone and let him believe what he believes...................he's hurting no one.
Why do they (in the gay community) feel the need to single him out, insult him, boycott his business and ridicule him publicly?

This should not be too complicated, even for you.
So because he does NOT share your view on Gay Marriage, he's an "Idiot". So who is the intolerant person here?
- Doppleganger
You said that earlier. How is calling someone an idiot, any more intolerant than praying for someone, because he does not share someone else’s view on marriage? They’re both condemning people for what they feel is wrong. Just in a different way.
How many people have been hurt or insulted by someone praying for them? If I prayed that you saw the light and became a Senator fan, how would that affect you negatively?? You probably would just shrug it off and move on with your life.
- Doppleganger
Probably no more than those that have been hurt by a random person calling them an idiot. I assume he’s probably shrugging it off and moving on with his life. Interesting how you condemn calling one person an idiot, however, condone calling an entire group of people arrogant. The rest of your idiocy I’ll ignore. It’s laughable that you focus on the praying portion, and yet, totally act like the “arrogant” part was never said.
Why can't those in the gay community just leave him alone and let him believe what he believes...................he's hurting no one.
- Doppleganger
Call me crazy, but I’d say calling for an entire group of people to be denied the same rights as the rest of society is just a little bit harmful, actually. Would you feel the same if he had said that he feels black/Chinese/Indian people should be denied the right to marry each other?
Why do they (in the gay community) feel the need to single him out, insult him, boycott his business and ridicule him publicly? - Doppleganger
Wait a second… WHO singled WHO out? I’d say the one that did all the singling out here is Dan Cathy. Maybe they felt the need because, well, he singled them out, insulted them, and boycotted their freedoms.

Seeing how this is getting pretty off topic, can we just agree that:
You should be able to have whatever view you want in life. Express your opinions and views as you wish, even if they differ from others. While expressing your views is fine, acting on them is a different story. You should be able to act on your views, only if the only person it affects is you. If acting on your beliefs affects those who believe differently, then that is where you draw the line.
If you don't believe in gay marriage, then fine don't act upon it by getting married to a person of the same sex. It should not be your right to enforce other people to abide by your belief system. In other words, if you don't believe in gay marriage, you have no right to prevent others who do believe in it from getting married. This would mean you are allowed to act on your beliefs, but aren't infringing on others who wish to do the same. That, to me, is wrong. |

They also have the right to shop and eat where they want, for whatever reason they want, including the political stance a company or it’s owner(s) may take. If those who own, or are in charge of a business, do not want to feel the repercussions in their business, they shouldn’t publicly make political statements. I mean, it’s their right to make their statement, if they so choose, just as those who disagree have the right not to spend their money there. It may not be smart, but it’s their right. |

Exactly. As a chain that is supposed to appeal to as many people as they can, it was stupid of them to not only segregate themselves from the gay community, but also those who support the gay community. By all means it is their right to do so, but from a business perspective it was fairly idiotic in my opinion. |

Dan Cathy is NOT making a political statement, he's expressing his beliefs and (In his mind) is helping those (by praying) who he believes have taken the wrong path.
It does not make him right or wrong, and neither is the gay community from a religious perspective.
Dan Cathy, in his heart, believes he (by praying) is doing something positive for the gay community, who want to get married.
On the other hand, the gay community is calling him names, calling for a boycott of his business simply because he won't convert his beliefs to theirs. |

I"ll bet for every customer who decides to boycott his business, there will those who will now support it because he lives his life by his own religious convictions, and practises what he preaches.
Some will support him because of the negativity that is coming his way from the gay community, who want to force their interpretation of marriage down his throat, and is publicly ridiculing his and boycotting his business.

You don’t believe that statements about whether the governing body recognizes gay marriage is a political issue? Seriously?
You’re telling me that it makes sense, that he thinks he’s doing something positive for someone, by denying them the right to do something they want?

I agree that those people will support is stance, but does that mean that they will no start to eat ther ebecause of it?
My guess is that they may have supporters in the debate, but he will lose customers as a result of the incident.
My guess is that more people will stop eating there than the ones that start eating there. Granted they will have support both ways, but in terms of the restaurant itself, it will probably suffer. |

You have to understand that people who believe this think that by doing so these people are going to hell (the said to be worst place imaginable). In objecting against gay marriage, a person like this believes they are doing good by saving people from this place.
However, in no way does he have a right to act on his stance and enforce his opinion on others.
His justifications for not wanting gay marriages could be pure of heart even if others believe they are evil and he is just trying to enforce his beliefs on others.
In the end however, you cannot 'protect' others who don't believe what you do, and it is their right to get married. |

They’ve got 1 in New York state, and 42 in California. Seems like their biggest area of concentration is Georgia and Florida. I can’t see it having a big impact either way there. If it were New York/Cali, they’d take a $hit kicking. If it were Arkansas, Louisiana, or Kentucky, it would probably help them. Maybe Ottawa too. |

There's a difference between simply having beliefs, and using them to deny others civil rights. That's the main issue. No one's "religious convictions" should trump the importance of equality. |

His posts in this thread are absolutely absurd. He’s defending this guy, and accusing those who oppose him of doing EXACTLY what he has done. He says the gay community insulted him, when in fact, the initial comments called people arrogant. Personally, I’d say that their opinion on the matter being worthy of being prayed for, is rather condescending and judgmental as well. He also says others are trying to push their idea of marriage on him, when the first thing said was, that he doesn’t feel it includes gays (which would be HIS definition of marriage).
Absolutely, 100%, delusional. - prock

This. So long as marriage and marriage rights are secular, government granted rights, opinions on marriage are at least in part political opinions. Not only that, but opinions against granting an individual rights are harmful, period. |
