No, he's attacking those who are speaking out against someone who used his freedom of speech to spread a hateful message.

Secondly, if that quote from the chicken restaurant guy on the first page was all her said, then he didn't say anything about gay marriage. he said he supports the traditional marriage, to first wives and having kids.

- Ricco the man

That is all he said. But our freinds of the progressive left have put words into his mouth and have been arguing for days now, that he actually said what they shoved down his throat.

There was ZERO hate in Dan Cathy's interview. The only hate is coming from left wing progressive hetrophobics like yourself.

Maybe you don't think you're hetrophobic, but subconsciously, you're definitely acting in that manner.

We are much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family owned business, a family-led business. We are married to our first wives and we give thanks to God for that.” Dan Cathy

While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we love and respect anyone who disagrees,”Dan Cathy

"We're a business that serves the public, all people are welcomed into Chick-fil-A, and frankly we do not feel called to weigh in on a lot of social activism that's taking place as it relates to the definition of the family, but we do definitely want to encourage strong families."Dan Cathy

"As it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage, I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about." Chick-Fil-A, the Atlanta-based fast food chicken restaurant that specializes in Christianity, has used its more than 1600 outlets to fuel its zest for stopping same-sex marriage, spending $5 million between 2003 and 2010 on anti-gay organizations and hate groups, including $2 million in 2010 alone.

The company, which was founded in 1946, and uses the tagline ”Eat mor chikin” in its advertising, “donated over $3 million to organizations like the Family Research Council and Exodus International between 2003 and 2009. And in 2010 alone, Chick-fil-A donated over $1.9 million to anti-gay causes, more than any other year for which public records are available,” according to a report released today by Equality Matters, a part of Media Matters. The report details the organizations Chick-Fil-A has supported, and notes:

The WinShape Foundation is Chick-fil-A’s charitable arm, created by Chick-fil-A founder and chairman S. Truett Cathy in 1984. WinShape has received a substantial amount of funding from Chick-fil-A: in 2010 alone, WinShape received $8,067,161 from Chick-fil-A Inc.

Some of the other anti-gay organizations and hate groups Chick-Fil-A’s money has supported include Marriage & Family Foundation, Fellowship Of Christian Athletes, and the Georgia Family Council. The Family Research Council (FRC), mentioned above, is a certified anti-gay hate group.

Florida teacher Jerry Buell, who last year wrote on Facebook that same sex marriage almost made him throw up, is a member of the Fellowship Of Christian Athletes.

http://thenewcivilrightsm...mination/2012/07/02/42684

1) Chick-fil-A has donated at least $5 million to organizations (including a certified hate group) that, among other things, depict gay people as pedophiles, want to make "gay behavior" illegal, and even say gay people should be "exported" out of America.

Even if you oppose same-sex marriage, do you really want to support a company that advocates putting gay people in jail, or "exporting" them, just because they're gay?

2) Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy didn't merely say he supports traditional marriage. Dan Cathy said if you support gay marriage (that means redefining marriage... Come on, guys... You know better than this), you "are inviting God's judgment on our nation," and that we "shake our fist at Him" when we do. Dan Cathy also said same-sex marriage is the result of a "deprived" mind and called it "twisted up kind of stuff."

Even if you don't support same-sex marriage, do you really think gay marriage is "inviting God's judgment on our nation"? Haven't we all heard enough blame from those who claim to speak for the Lord, like after Katrina or, more recently, after the shooting in Aurora, Colo.?

3) Chick-fil-A supports organizations that have claimed they can change gay people into straight people -- "pray away the gay" -- despite the fact that practically every major medical organization has stated that this is not only impossible but dangerous and harmful.

Even if you don't support same-sex marriage, do you support fake "science" that is known to harm the very people it claims to help?

I have not come out in support of gay marriage, nor have I opposed it. I have purposely steered clear of coming down on one side or the other of this issue.

The only issue I'm dealing with is everyone's first amendment rights to free speech.

Dan Cathy, and gay marriage advocates are allowed to express their POVs.............no matter what you or anyone thinks about the subject matter they are discussing.

That is your interpretation, and is probably pretty accurate. But he does not single any one group out. It is not hateful in any way................and not charges of hate speech have been filed.

He used the word arrogant............hardly hate speech, and he used it in reference to the whole nation, the entire population.

I think there are limits. When you throw "arrogant" in there, and say things like he prays for god's mercy because of a group of people, I think he crossed the line.

Of course he doesn't have to agree with it... Doesn't mean he should say it. It really is offensive.

If I think black people should be slaves again (I don't by the way) that's fine for me to think it, but I shouldn't say it... Especially if I'm in the public eye. It's just not right. It's degrading, it's insensitive, and I'd realize that I'd be embarrassing not only myself, but my family, and my business in the process.

Than again, Cathy was able to get plenty of free marketing out of this.

Anyway...

If "it" refers to arrogant, and "he" refers to Dan Cathy, and that is how he truly believes, then there is nothing preventing him from saying it. And of course there is no "right" not to be offended in the USA.

This is a false equivalent.

He is stating his POV on "traditional" marriage as he defines it, and lives his life by it.

How is advocating "traditional" marriage degrading, insensitive or embarrassing??

His statements are protected under the first amendment, and is not anywhere the near the neighbourhood of being hateful.

The only Hate is coming from the left wing progressives and gay activists.

So in your mind, someone taken by force from their home, thrown into the hold of ship, taken to another continent and then forced to work under threat of violence or death, being owned by someone and having ZERO rights or freedom under the law governing the Nation..................is same thing as two people today who cannot legally get married today???

I think its evident that gays don't have it as bad as slaves. But is that honestly the metric by which we should judge freedom? Gays are being denied rights, and the qualitative wrong in that is on par with any other denial of rights.

Thank you for saving me a little time with having to respond to that. People place too much weight on their own beliefs. If any of your beliefs involves the denial of someones rights, than I take a diarrhea dump on those beliefs, and rightfully so. Seriously, how arrogant are people to think their beliefs are more important than equality... It's ridiculous.

The Dali Lama said something remarkable. He explained that Christianity was the most "beautiful religion" known to man. But, he explained, the problem with Christianity is Christians. So many Christians have turned a religion of love and inclusion into a code of judgement and exclusion.

Jesus ministered to the poor, the sick, the lame and the broken. He stood with those who had been excluded and marginalized. Do you really believe that Jesus would scorn a gay couple who loved and cared for one another?
