Look I get where you left wing progressives are coming from.
You believe in the right to freedom of speech, as long as it conforms to left wing progressive Ideology.
Whereas I believe everyone has total freedom of speech, no matter who gets offended, or who disagrees with it.
Of course I don't endorse what is legally defined as "hate speech" and yelling "fire" in the theatre.............becasue that's against the law, and charges could and should be made in those cases.

Of course you support freedom of speech, until it involves responding to a right wing bigot that you agree with. |

I said there are some here who think those who don't agree with the progressive left should have some of their "rights" taken away. - Doppleganger
And I said, can you show me an example of where anyone has stated that? |

Chick Fil A should have certain rights removed for promoting inequality. I stand by that. Corporations face penalties and restrictions all of the time. If I were a mayor, I wouldn't want a company that stood for racism, sexism, or any other form of inequality in my city. - laughs2907

Has nothing to do with disagreeing with the left...that's to do with disagreeing with the founding principles of the nation(not to mention his religion). |

Ok, just hadn't seen that anywhere.. Thanks for pointing it out
However, I don't think that the majority of people here would actually argue that at all |

Based on the rights of the country, he is more than free to make his opinion known. I just dont think it was the best business decision for him to make, but that's just me.
As for my opinion on the subject, I a completely against people who object to the way others live their lives if it doesnt affect them. Why should you have any say over how someone else's life should be run, when they have no impact on yours? I think that is a mentality we need to eliminate in the world. |

I agree 100%. The progressive left and the gay community should not object to how Dan Cathy lives his life or follows his religious beliefs.
He should be free to express his POV without his business being dragged into it, fear that his employees could be harassed, his stores vandalized, his supporters be targeted by would be mass murders.
And no Government at any level should even suggest that they might impede his ability to start up new restaurants and employ people.
Why should the progressive left and the gay community have any say over how Dan Cathy's life should be run, what religious beliefs he should not have, and which POVs of theirs he should embrace.

If you have an entirely libertarian philosophy your point of view is entirely consistant. Dan Cathy should be allowed to say whatever he wants about gay marriage and gay lifestyle choices. But you also need to know that the same philosophy enables others to say what they want about Dan Cathy, his business practices and any thoughts they might have in avoiding his place of business. Free speech is always a multiple sided debate.

Dan Cathy is well within his rights to have his own views on gay marriage.
The question kind of becomes is whether Chick Fil A as a corporate entity is entitled to the same rights. The corporate entity of Chick Fil A funds a number of anti-gay marriage groups and franchise owners are often expected to attend WinShape meetings. This is not one mans personal views, its become a funding mechanism for promoting that mans beliefs to a far greater number of people.
Those two mayors acted hastily and without thinking, but people who are making it strictly about Dan Cathy and his beliefs are being naive and deflecting. Chick Fil A as a corporate entity without a doubt funds and promotes discrimination, and in answer to the question I posed no, they are not entitled to the same rights. Its impossible that everyone who works and eats at Chick Fil A shares those views. Blocking franchises from opening is bad business, but funding groups who goals are discrimination against a specific group is discrimination. Period.

Having never attended any WinShape events, College programs or Camps I cannot speak to their curriculum.
But you seem to know that their sole purpose is "anti gay" rather than being a non profit, charitable organization that promotes the religious lifestyle that Dan Cathy follows.
That's a long stretch of logic if you ask me, saying that a College program that awards scholarships to young adults that follow the teachings of their religion, as being anti gay.
So your logic would apply to any Religious based or funded University in the world, that recognizes the "traditional family unit" or "traditional marriage", and you would automatically label them as being "anti gay". |

So you think its okay for a company to expect its employees to attend meetings or other gatherings of a particular religion? Isn't that, AGAIN, imposing his religious views on others?
By the way, both chick fil a and win shape both fund many anti-gay groups. Look up focus on the family. |

I don't know that Chick fil a expects its employees to attend meetings "of a particular religion"............please provide a link to this.
Also I quickly checked out http://www.focusonthefamily.ca/ as you suggested, and wondered what you found that was "anti gay".

Well, when they post things like "the homosexual agenda is a beast. They want our children.". And "Communities do not let prostitutes, pedophiles, voyeurs, adulterers and those who sexually prefer animals to publicly celebrate their lifestyle, so why should homosexuals get such privileges?", I get the idea they just might be anti-gay.
You may know better than I though. |

If you go to a man’s house, and he is having sex with a man. I mean, totally just going at it, but he’s taken his rainbow flag down, does that mean he’s not gay anymore?
There are literally hundreds of references to the statements I quoted earlier in a quick google search, including sources that you earlier said you consider legitimate news sources. I’d be absolutely flabbergasted if you try to claim it’s all a big left wing progressive lie, and deny they were said. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can possibly be that stupid. Or, are you trying to claim they weren’t anti-gay statements?
They’ve taken it down. That doesn’t make them any less of a group of bigots. |

Look, you and others have claimed that Organizations like "Focus on the Family" and "WinShape" are, in your words, "anti Gay"...........but you have failed to provide a link to either of those organizations websites, where there is anything "anti-gay".
Posting a link to pro left wing progressive websites like "right wing watch" or the "Huffington Post", and using their spin and interpretation of what they think these organizations are, is not proof they are "anti gay". |

Sure, as soon as you post the link to the progressive left's website where they officially object to how Dan Cathy lives his life, as you stated they do earlier.
Thanks. |
