They aren't using it as an excuse....they believe it, and they are allowed to believe it. And you're grouping them all together by using a demeaning "these people"
Funny you should bring up the priests, particularly the ones in Boston, since that was a gay subculture under the guise of being religious.
As for arrogance......2000 years of recorded history is way off.....it took a hadful of judges in The Peoples Republic of Massachusetts to tell us all we've been wrong about marriage for all that time. They know the true meaning....thank god they got here to explain it to us and to save us from ourselves - bruinsbeer69
Who said it's been done wrong? Gay people aren't saying there's anything wrong with marriage. They're saying they want in. How does that affect anyone other than gay people?
There was nothing keeping gay people from getting married, until states started caving to religious beliefs, and added amendments to keep gays from getting married. What kills me about conservatives is how they want the government to stay out of their affairs, until they see somebody doing something against their religion. Then they want the government to ban it.
Cathy came under scrutiny after he told the Baptist Press he was "guilty as charged" when it came to supporting "the biblical definition of the family unit."
He wasn't exactly protesting in front of a Turkish bathhouse.....he was asked a question, and answered it honestly.
Now all of the Democrat politicians who want to rally the gay vote for Obama are tripping over themselves to show how much they support their lifestyle.
Funny how Bostons Mayor, "Mumbles" Menino, who opened up the city to litigation by attempting to keep Chik Fil A out because they disagreed with his social opinion on the matter, didn't say a freakin word when Imam Al-Qaradawi, who has a prominent role in the Boston Mosque that was built under Menino's watch, about his views on the gays.
"Some say we should throw them from a high place, like God did with the people of Sodom. Some say we should burn them"
Interesting opinion. Sounds a little more inflamatory than Cathys support of "the biblical definition of the family unit." But who am I to point out a liberals double standard? - bruinsbeer69
One is the CEO of a publicly traded company, coming out against a social movement. The other is a religious leader talking about his religion- it's his job.
He's just as wrong as Cathy... but it's only a double standard if Boston starts kicking out the Christian priests that say the same things, and lets the Muslims stay.
In my opinion, religious leaders should be held just as accountable as anyone else. But if we did that, conservatives would be pissed when Pat Robinson gets arrested for hate speech.
So you're comparing a Chik Fil A to a Mosque? - Morris
Is that your idea of wit, or is that a serious question.
I'm basing it off of the Boston Mayors history.
He bent over backwards to get the mosque built in Boston with a guy who made much worse comments about the gay community than the guy running Chik Fil A....but he takes a public stance, and illegal stance, against the fast food restaurant, but doesn't say a word to the guy who wants to wipe the gays off the earth.

And what kills me is the liberal left, especially the gay lobby, demands tolerance, yet, are unable to tolerate differing opinions on anything that they disagree with.

They both have a right to say what ever they want. They both have a right to feel the way they want. Some say it's right, others say it's wrong. I'm just pointing out the Mayors double standard when it comes to the people against alternative lifestyles. He'll write a letter and try to squeeze Chik Fil A out of the Boston Market, but he;ll be more than happy to be there for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mosque.

Not arguing, but out of curiousity, what differing opinions are you referring to? I trust you're referring to a differing opinion other than that of disagreeing with restricting them from equality?

I don't really know about mosque thing. But what you say makes total sense. I'd say the same stance should have been taken against them.

Totally worth mentioning - bruinsbeer69
I don't know much about this mayor of Boston scenario, and it's unclear from your posts what the story is: here you're saying he opened up illegal injunctions against them, later you're saying he simply wrote a letter frowning upon their presence in Boston.
Both that Imam and Dan Cathy have both freedom of speech and freedom of religion, that's not being questioned. However, a mosque and a chik fil a don't need to be treated the same way, as preventing a mosque from being built absolutely restricts someone's freedom of religion and preventing a chik fil a from being built absolutely doesn't.
Dopps/Beer, what would you guys do if your son or daughter approached you one day and told you that he or she was gay? Would you call your child arrogant and pray for god's mercy? Just curious...

I'm unclear about how the gay community (you can include the liberal left if you want) has reacted disproportionately.

Yea, what bumholes, not tolerating the people that want to keep them from having equal rights.

It's right up there with the conservative double standards. NO GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT!

What makes you think I don't have gay family members now?
This is NOT the point I've been trying get across. It's about the first amendment of the constitution of the United States of America.
The first amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
I'm defending Dan Cathy's right to free speech and right to practise his religion.
The gay community and the progressive left don't like his view on traditional marriage, and are organizing boycotts of his franchises, and publicly insulting him.
Do you see Christians organizing boycotts of ......let's say, Ben & Jerry's outlets, who have publicly supported gay marriage, or publicly insulting them??
That's the difference my friend. If the gay community and the progressive left don't agree with your POV, they lash out and take action to force their opinion on you.
How many times have you heard the progressive left claim that those (white) people who did not vote for Obama are racists, or those (white) people who oppose his policies are also racists.
Have you ever heard the opposite??
Has anyone claimed that anyone of colour who did not vote for John McCain, did so because they are racist???
Just answer my question... What would you guys do if your son or daughter approached you one day and told you that he or she was gay? Would you call your child arrogant and pray for god's mercy?

Answer my question... What would you guys do if your son or daughter approached you one day and told you that he or she was gay? Would you call your child arrogant and pray for god's mercy?
So if I "come out" in favour of Daniel Alfredsson and the Ottawa Senators...........does that mean I've also "come out" against the Edmonton Oilers???
Try a little common sense my friend.
- Doppleganger
Now you're being stupid... Did you even read Dan Cathy's comments? He simply did not say he valued "the traditional idea of marriage" he called those who have different views "arrogant" and begged for God's mercy.
If you "come out" in favour of Daniel Alfredsson and the Ottawa Senators, and in the next sentence you call the Oilers arrogant, and say we'll face god's wrath because of them, than yes... Of course you're against the Oilers.
By the way, there are many religions that accept gay marriage... My religion (Anglican - A part of Christianity) being one of them.
The Chicago Republican Party announced last week it would file a complaint with the Illinois Department of Human Rights and Attorney General Lisa Madigan over the discriminatory action by Alderman Proco (Joe) Moreno against the food chain Chick-fil-A.
The party is now expanding their complaint to cover Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel as well. According to a press release, the Chicago Republican Party says that "the complaint states that the Alderman and the Mayor have broken civil rights laws pertaining to religious freedom and the First Amendment in denying Chick fil A a permit to operate its business in the City of Chicago."

Good............but THE POINT I'm trying to make, and you are totally avoiding, is that the first amendment protects Dan Cathy's freedom of speech and his freedom to practise his religion.
It is his "rights of freedom of speech and his freedom to practise his religion" that are under attack by the gay community and the progressive left.

What don't you get about that??? - Doppleganger
I have no problem with freedom of speech, I said that before... I'm simply saying that Dan Cathy is an idiot for saying what he said. Believe what you want, but when you're in the public eye, and your comments will reach millions of people, you have to expect backlash when you say something that goes against equality. Gay people are just trying to live their own lives and be treated equally... What's wrong with that? Why is it any of Dan Cathy's business what they do? It's none of your business, it's none of my business, it's none of Dan Cathy's business, and it's none of Tim Thomas's business... It's a sad world when people can't live their own lives, without others interfering and telling them what they should do, and how they should live.
Now... What would you guys do if your son or daughter approached you one day and told you that he or she was gay? Would you call your child arrogant and pray for god's mercy?

BUT, the lashing out is because he exercised his first amendment rights.
If you believed equality, you would allow him to "practise what he preaches" just you do so yourself. Why do YOU, the gay community and the progressive left want to boycott his stores, insult him simply because he exercised his first amendment rights????
Is Dan Cathy and the Christian Church boycotting Ben & Jerry's???
Is Dan Cathy and the Christian Church insulting Ben or Jerry???
Is Dan Cathy and the Christian Church seeking to block new Ben & Jerry's from opening.
NO he is not, he is allowing them to exercise their first amendment rights.
That is equability my friend.
In the USA you have the freedom to speak your mind and allow others that same courtesy in return.
