I don't know much about this mayor of Boston scenario, and it's unclear from your posts what the story is: here you're saying he opened up illegal injunctions against them, later you're saying he simply wrote a letter frowning upon their presence in Boston.
Both that Imam and Dan Cathy have both freedom of speech and freedom of religion, that's not being questioned. However, a mosque and a chik fil a don't need to be treated the same way, as preventing a mosque from being built absolutely restricts someone's freedom of religion and preventing a chik fil a from being built absolutely doesn't. - Morris
It's not about preventing a mosque from being built, it's Menino's recent double standard. On the one hand, he's happy to have a Mosque in Boston, yet, one of the main people involved has publically stated that he'd like to throw gays from the top of a building. On the other hand, he sent a letter to Chik Fil A, because the President/COO of Chik Fil A, expressed his opinion about marriage based on his beliefs. Menino is trying to stong arm him out of the Boston market and that myfend, is illegal. You can't prevent a business from going into your city because you happen to disagree with them on a topic
Probably shouldn't have shut up all those occupy protesters eh? Not only where they exercising their freedom of speech... they were spreading the word of god! - Feeling Glucky?
.........dont forget the rape and sexual assault in their little Obama-villes.
Dopps/Beer, what would you guys do if your son or daughter approached you one day and told you that he or she was gay? Would you call your child arrogant and pray for god's mercy? Just curious... - laughs2907
I would love them just as much that day as the day they were born.
But if they wanted to get married......I don't think I'd be able to attend
It's right up there with the conservative double standards. NO GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT!
HEY, GOVERNMENT! BAN GAY MARRIAGE AND ABORTIONS! - Feeling Glucky?
it's limited government, not NO GOVERNMENT
Build a road, fund the military......and after the decline in schools over the last 5 decades, I've changed my mind about funding schools, or at the very least would like that revamped
The issue I've been defending Dan Cathy on, is his first amendment rights of freedom of Religion and freedom of speech, whether I agree with his Religion or what he says in an interview.
I have purposely not sided with any other issues being discussed in this thread.
I know you want to "pretend" and "spin" examples to get to say what you want me to say on these other issues.............but I'm not going to, because the pertinent issue is Dan Cathy's constitutional right to free speech and right to his religion.
It does not matter what "issue" he was talking about in the interview(s) that got the gay community and the progressive left all upset.
The only thing that I've been trying to get across to those who want him to change his beliefs and accept theirs, is that he is protected under the Constitution of the USA to be right or wrong about any issue he decides to talk about.
It's that simple, and not need to invent some convoluted parallel universe to where mice chase cats and pigs fly, to find someway to prove your point. We all live in this reality and if you can't make your point dealing in it, then just let people who you disagree with go their own way and leave them alone with you see as a "wrong" view on any given issue.
By the way, you seem to believe "one group" is denying "another group" the "right" to get married.
There is NO "right" to get married in the USA, so your premise is kinda full of holes. - Doppleganger
I don't care about Dan Cathy's comments... What I do care about is how you were bashing the gay community for envoking their right to boycott his business. That is all.
You mentioned that the gay community is being intolerant. That I fought about.
Right to get married, fine, how about they have the ability to get maried.. Are you really going to focus on the least important part of the whole thing?

To be clear though, I see nothing wrong with boycotting and protesting Chick-fil-a. I’m surprised the same people wouldn’t protest (boycotting makes no sense) the building of the mosque. As far as the mayor goes, if he’s going to take a stance based on statements made in favour of restricting rights to a group of people, as a governmental figure, he should be taking that stance on every group that makes statements like that. Either he a) takes no action, because he doesn’t feel it’s his responsibility as the mayor to make those decisions, or b) reacts the same way to both groups.
That’s not really the part of the discussion I’ve been entering into though. If Dan Cathy wants to say he doesn’t believe in gay marriage, that’s his prerogative. He’s an idiot for saying it, but that’s his right. That said, it’s also the gay community’s right to protest. That’s another amendment, I do believe. It’s their right to fire comments right back at him, just like it’s his to say them in the first place.
He can say what he wants. Just like Dopps throughout this thread, he’d be better off keeping his comments to himself though, as it makes him look like an idiot.
I'm not gay bashing, and No, I didn't go to Chik Fil A yesterday. It's just something that I believe is between a man and a woman, that's all.
I have about a half dozen gay friends. Including 2 that have gotten married. 2 brides in wedding gowns doesn't work for me. - bruinsbeer69
And do you feel that just because it violates what you're comfortable with, that they shouldn't be getting married, and that they are arrogant for wanting to have the same rights as straight people?

Ok, so one guy attacking a group outright is ok and freedom of speech... but that group attacking back... that's censorship?
Also, is it a right to go to a restaurant, or sit at the front of the bus? If not, maybe we should arbitrarily ban certain groups from doing that. Can't see anyone getting upset about that.
America is founded on the ideals of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, right?
Banning same-sex marriage cuts out two of those aspects, and thus, is decidedly anti-american.
But since marriage isn't a right, maybe straight marriage should be banned, too.

Are you being real??? Challenging "rights" protected by the US Constitution is the most important part of this whole thing.

The only ones coming off as you like to put it, idiots, are the Mayors of the US Cities who are taking a stand against someone exercising their constitutional rights, and those who agree with them.

Every time I read one of Dopp's posts, the same thing comes to mind... Double standards. - laughs2907
That’s exactly it. Literally, every single thing he accuses the gay community of, Dan Cathy has done the same thing (and first, for that matter). He accuses people of insulting Dan Cathy, yet, the first statement made called people prideful and arrogant, and they’ll face god’s wrath…. Umm, okay? He talks about the gay community trying to suppress those who don’t agree with their stance…. Umm, hello, the entire subject is that of someone who is suggesting gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry as it doesn’t agree with his beliefs. Then talks about how the gay community gets up in arms, and “goes one step further to make his change his lifelong beliefs by employing economic coercion and trying to prevent more franchises from opening.”, something Christians would not do…. Which is obviously pure stupidity.
But my personal favourite…. “Freedom of speech is fantastic, but when it's used to attack a certain group of people, it's wrong.” That, to a tee, is exactly what Dan Cathy did.

Dude, neither of your links work.
It would appear that the gay community and the progressive left are in the minority, and the silent majority fully support Dan Cathy's right to freedom of speech and don't back down from the intolerance coming from the gay community and the progressive left who seem to think their views are right and lash at those who don't play along. - Doppleganger
Oh yes, that's convincing evidence. Video of a day when they cut their prices, and practically give their food away. Getting a lineup, on a day like that clearly means that the majority of Americans are silently backing him.

They cut their prices yesterday? - bruinsbeer69
I'm sure they have a lineup like every fast food restaurant. The video was their appreciation day when they slash prices. I believe if you put that into a YouTube search you'll find some pretty comical videos of people going to their restaurants all over the city to try get a 5 dollar bucket of chicken to feed their family, but they're all sold out. Its hardly indicative that the majority of general public agrees with their stance. Its meaningless.
Like most things, I imagin the average American doesn't care.

The master of SPIN is at it again.
You're putting words in Dan Cathy's mouth that he never said to make your point.
Dan Cathy, in an interview with the Baptist Press, said "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."
He clearly does NOT single out the gay community in his words.
He says "We" and "our Nation" or "our generation" not once did he use "gay" in his Baptist newspaper interview.
So the gay community and the progressive left decided they knew better than him, as to what he "really meant" and, like you, put words in his mouth.
If you have to lie and attribute a statement to someone that they never said, to spark a protest and boycott, then you're not going to get much support for your cause.

Oh, how generous of him. He blames all of society when he calls for gays not to be equal as human beings. I take it all back, he hasn’t singled them out at all.

Again, if you cannot provide the quote in which he said what you claim, then you're just putting more words in his mouth, in an attempt to make your point when faced with the facts as stated, and seeing that you've been "fooled" by the spin of the gay community and the progressive left.
Next thing I expect coming from you, is your explanation as to how Omar Khadr was a "child soldier" when he killed medic Christopher James Speer, who was coming to treat his wounds.
