Good Morning and TGIF...
will it be wash and repeat or will it be a brand new day?
Either, Happy Friday to everyone...as the great H31 said, let's all take a deep breath. |

Thanks Bill. I was actually going to ask how the LTIR would work once the season started.
I like this team. At least we have wiggle room salary wise in case of injury. |

Now, if they can just avoid trading Voracek in the next 13 months or so - Jsaquella
you didn't read, it was a sign and trade with another team.

Everyone wants to trade For Bobby Ryan. I see Voracek being as good as Bobby Ryan very shortly. He may not be as good of a goal scorer at any point. But as a point producer and overall player, every bit as good if not better. Same for Schenn also. |

I am in full agreement. Ryan's a helluva player, but no need to overpay for him. |

Its the combination of the whole "shiny new toy" and the fact that Ryan is an exciting player.
I have been against that trade since day 1. Dont need him. Our team is very good top to bottom. I think Schenn and Couts are gonna have very nice years, but Schenn will be the one to surprise. Cant underestimate how much it will mean having his brother here. That competitive push will be great for the both of them. |

I like this team as it stands as well. I want to see the youngsters
get ice time and mature. We are weaker at Wong than last year. I would love
Doan but I wouldn't be as afraid of Semin as everyone else is. He's not as
goofy as Zherdev was. And we don't lose assets with a FA. |

"For all the praise that Sean Couturier justifiably received for the checking job he did against Evgeni Malkin in the Pittsburgh series, Couturier also played a major hand along with defensemen Braydon Coburn and Nicklas Grossmann in containing that line at even strength."
Bill, I think you meant the 2nd Couturier to be Voracek. |

Why do teams wait to put players on LTIR? Doesn't it make sense for the Flyers to put Pronger on LTIR as soon as the season starts? For some reason I don't think the Bruins put Savard on LTIR until late int he season last year. - riceroni
if the a team has 2 million in cap space LTIR is 4 million...they will only get 2 million in additional cap space not 6 million as some people believe.
If a team is maxed out on cap space and LTIR is 4 million, once the player goes on LTIR, they get the 4 million in cap space.
They wait because it affect their cap number. |

I said this a while back...we as Flyer fans are 100% spoiled that GM Homer, in the last few years have been able to make a splash in the offseason to make the team better. Because of that, I think the fan base believes its the norm versus allowing the team evolve.
this is the first time in a long time where I see a lot of promise and youth on the team and i would like to see what they can do...

I disagree, but Im also under the illusion that Rinaldo can get his poop together head-wise. If Rinaldo played with, dare I say, Shelleys hockey sense he'd be a hell of a player, but he is still immature, hopefully he starts to get it this season cause he has an impact on the game, just sometimes its not the desired one. |

I agree about the youth, but isn't it the norm to make a big splash? He ponied up 300 million dollars in the past 3 weeks for grade A talent...... |

If your under the Cap, placing a player on LTIR doesn't do anything for you. Other then the roster exemption. But placing a player on IR does the same thing. |

I maybe the minority, but I think Homer knew he wasn't going to get Parise and Suter but he needed to play the game to drive up the price.
As for Weber as much as he really wanted Weber, I also believe he did this to keep him away from the other teams, at least in the short term.
It should not be the norm to make a big splash...IMO |

Even my fat ass cat knows that cap space and 2nd round picks make Homer uncomfortable. And we have both. Ryan is coming. If they could get him for Read and prospects/picks. I say welcome home son. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Voracek, Cap Space, Laviolette - bmeltzer
Bill,
It looks like Doan is the "next best option" at this point. Maybe tomorrow can you blog on the nuances of what we are waiting on from the parties in Pheonix. I understand it has to do with whether they stay or go and something to do with the arena lease and whether there will be more public money. But that is about all I get.
I can't imagine that will be resolved any time soon. And it seems like he keeps pushing out the deadline. |

I agree with that but I think Shelley knows when to hold it in till it needs to happen. Zac just kinda goes in like a crazy mad man and doesnt seem to know when to fight or start something. Don't get me wrong I like Zac but I like Shelley bc he has rep and other players knows what will happen when he is out on the ice even if it is for 7 min a game |

Why? Rinaldo does take undisciplined penalties and has a target on his back, but he also brings speed and physical play that Shelley can't match. There were more occasions of a Rinaldo hit turning play and serving to fire up the troops than of Shelley fighting and accomplishing the same. |
