I said this a while back...we as Flyer fans are 100% spoiled that GM Homer, in the last few years have been able to make a splash in the offseason to make the team better. Because of that, I think the fan base believes its the norm versus allowing the team evolve.
this is the first time in a long time where I see a lot of promise and youth on the team and i would like to see what they can do... - phi1671
the flyers have a pretty glaring need for a puck mover and while going into the season standing pat is reasonable, I don't expect homer to wait until after Xmas before addressing that position. I also think we need a shooter to emerge on the wing because we lost 2 of them in the off season. let's see what plays out.
I agree with that but I think Shelley knows when to hold it in till it needs to happen. Zac just kinda goes in like a crazy mad man and doesnt seem to know when to fight or start something. Don't get me wrong I like Zac but I like Shelley bc he has rep and other players knows what will happen when he is out on the ice even if it is for 7 min a game - Flyers_1488
What will happen? Shelley will fight the other team's heavyweight, and the guy who is taking runs at the skill guys will continue to do so.

I agree that Rinaldo needs to mature and become a little less of a hot head. But he's a better player then Shelley. Rinaldo can effect a game more then Shelley can.

Even my fat ass cat knows that cap space and 2nd round picks make Homer uncomfortable. And we have both. Ryan is coming. If they could get him for Read and prospects/picks. I say welcome home son. - Deasr1
If Anaheim backs off of their initial asking price of a 2nd line center +, then sure. But I don't see them doing that, especially with so few impact forwards available.
after reading this, I feel a lot better. If they sign doan, i'm happy, if they don't, i'm happy too. They will be able to add probably a forward and defensmen and the deadline. haven't been able to do that in a while.

The Flyers right now have as much offensive firepower as any team in the League. We'll also see how other players such as Meszaros and Coburn do with the opportunities they are going to be given. Having a top 4 puck mover becoming available before Christmas isn't likely.
I agree about the youth, but isn't it the norm to make a big splash? He ponied up 300 million dollars in the past 3 weeks for grade A talent...... - aosplayo
I think it is the norm for the way we used to be, but look at this team.
27 or under (bold over25!):
Giroux Read
Simmonds
Voracek
SchennX2
Couts
MaB
Wellwood Coburn
Grossmann
Meszy
Gusty
Harry Z
Rinaldo
Sestito Gervais
Manning
Holmstrom
That means we have 19 players that are 27 or younger, 14 of which are 25 or younger!
I am really excited about the make up of this team.

That is my hope. I like Doan a lot. A whole lot. But I just don't want that crazy contract on this roster. He will be severely overpaid
Why? Rinaldo does take undisciplined penalties and has a target on his back, but he also brings speed and physical play that Shelley can't match. There were more occasions of a Rinaldo hit turning play and serving to fire up the troops than of Shelley fighting and accomplishing the same. - Jsaquella
I could replay that hit on A-Train 30 times a day... Thing of beauty, especially after all the big hits he had thrown on Flyers.

at this point, that's the only deal i'd do -- I wouldn't trade more than one roster player. I'm fine with Read on third line...but Ryan would be awesome to have. but not needed....just wanted.
I wouldn't mind seeing Bob Ryan here but I also don't want to see Homer trade B Schenn or Jake to get him.
Read and MAB or Gus and a 2nd would be my max offer.
As others have stated, Ryan is more of a want than a need.

lotta career years for the flyers last yr...not a lot of pure shooters. jagr created a lot of synergy that will be missed. kids can make up some of the difference.

I'm far more worried about losing Carle's puck moving ability. I think that offensively, once set in the zone, they will be fine.
