There is a huge drop off between Mesz and Bourdon/Gus/Gervais/Lilya.
Like, Oprah Winfrey huge!

i'll buy that. but again, to make the trade "work" you need to send over the salary.
let's ask this other question. out of the following, who would you rather send the other way:
Grossman
Cobourn
Schenn
Mezaros

i DEFINITELY want another vet. with leadership qualities.
devils fan pal of mine says i would tear my hair out over how slow he is. (arnott)
i always liked him but admit i haven't seen him play much at all over the last two years.
what's the general consensus here... is he done or does he still have a year or two in the tank? - Don'tForgetTocchet
Arnott doesnt have speed at this point but most VETS dont they use their hockey knowledge and skills/experience to make up the difference. He's good defensively which would help this team. |

not really
i'm just speculating that if we pick up another high-ish priced young player now, we might have to make some hard decisions in the next few years regarding some of our current young players that are supposedly being considered as keepers by the flyers.
which is where the value of a matt read cannot be dismissed.
i don't know that it really needed to be so dissected but hopefully that's enough for you to not be upset about the opinion. - Don'tForgetTocchet
I agree with you. In a cap-controlled sport, you HAVE to project to some degree. I think Holmgren and the Flyers didn't learn this right out of the gate, which is why you had the Gagne and Upshall kinds of trades.
At this point you'll have G, Schenn, Couturier, Read and Mesz all up for new deals at the same time, and Simmonds and Hartsy the year before. Yes, you have Timonen and a few others coming off. That has to be factored in.

Since they didn't get Weber for picks....none. As much as I'd like to have Ryan, I wouldn't do it for roster players. I think the roster is better right now as constructed than losing 2/3 roster players plus picks/prospects for Ryan. |

If visnovsky was in Anaheim...... I'd be tempted with mez, read, Laughton, 1st for Ryan and visnovsky. |

Everyone wants to trade For Bobby Ryan. I see Voracek being as good as Bobby Ryan very shortly. He may not be as good of a goal scorer at any point. But as a point producer and overall player, every bit as good if not better. Same for Schenn also. - MJL
I agree that is why the Voracek ++(+) scenarios that some people on here keep coming up with are completely ridiculous! |

I doubt they would. They are really high on Sbisa. Man, I really hated giving him up. |

Sbisa is a solid young defenseman. The one defenseman the Flyers actually get right in years and he gets traded. Unbelieveable. |

They don't need to send over the salary to make the trade work. The Flyers have almost 7M to work with. |

I think he means that Anaheim would need it to get to the floor. That's why I think a trade for Luby wouldn't work with NYI. |

Yeah, at one point someone suggested adding him to balance it, but I think the thread jumped to the merits of one Read, Matthew. |
