He could trade Meszaros-say in a trade for Ryan-and go out and sign Carlo Coliacovo as a free agent, and have the net result be about the same.
Coliacovo had a nice solid year last year, and has managed to stay mostly healthy, at least for him. - Jsaquella
Coliacovo and healthy in the same sentence, you are correct that is funny. I think Mez is a very solid d-man if healthy. I have read nothing to suggest his back isn't recovering nicely. For his cap hit, I think he has some good value. Unless Pronger is feeling better (I know, I expect to be shouted down immediately by all the internet doctors that he is done), I just can't see Mez being moved without another proven d-man not coming back. |

At this point, I can't see how Homer is dangling Mez unless he is getting a d-man back in return. Am I missing something? - ravishingone
no i agree but that has been the "word" ie rumors... that mesz has been dangled. i'd prefer keeping him but i'm a huge mesz fan

considering that mesz tried to come back early from surgery in the playoffs i hope that he's ready for a reg season if we get one. |

Dangling Mez made sense when trying to acquire Weber, a winger makes no sense. A third pairing of one of the young kids and a possible journeyman makes no sense at all. Also, if the goal is to try and conserve Kimmo, no way the third pairing can't log close to 30 minutes between the pair. |

i agree with you.
i also enjoy the fact that you know it's a D pair and not a "line"

I do like Manning or MAB on the third pairing with the teams' current top 5 d-men. I think one of these guys can develop into a solid contributor for a good couple of years. It would certainly help the cap situation if one of them could develop. I just hope the organization shows paitence. |

Coliacovo has played in 73, 67, 65 & 64 games the last 4 years. He's stayed fairly injury free and played very solid hockey. It's not ideal, but Coliacovo could step in a replace a lot of what Meszaros does, and possibly cost less. |

I understand what you are writing, I'm just not willing to go there, unless I knew Pronger could definitely come back this year. |

I don't think they'll make a trade anyhow. Prices seem too high.
I still think if they do trade Meszaros, adding Coliacovo is a good idea. He;d be ideal to play with Gervais or Gustafsson on the third pair, with Schenn sliding up to play with Timonen or Coburn. |

I actually the Ryan situation will be resolved in the near future (not necessarily writing the Flyers will acquire him). You have to believe Murry wasn't thrilled with public comments pertaining to the organization. I don't see the Ducks trading him to a team in the Western Conference. If Doan's contract demands are correct, not going to be a large amount of bidders for his services. Pretty high, when Detroit is scared of the price tag. With Nash being resolved, I just see Ryan getting done in pretty short order. |

Seen some reports that the Canes are interested in signing Coliacovo. |

Everyone keeps saying the Rangers ripped off columbus for Nash. What would an equivilent deal in terms of Flyers players have been for Nash. Just curious. |

the flyers could of offered more, esp with jvr (when they had him), read, mab or evengusty.. maybe even read.. a combo of players would of been thrown together - bigmookalookie
Not that I wanted him. But the price for Nash was unnaturally low because of the circumstances.

Probably some sort of deal with Simmonds as the centerpiece, Wellwood, Gus and a 2nd. Id take that over what NY gave them at least... |

I wouldn't.
Dubinsky is a 2 time 20 goal scorer. He struggled in 2011-12, but he's a capable offensive player. Anisimov's career has almost paralleled that of Jake Voracek, production wise. He doesn't have as high a ceiling as Jake, but he's got some upside.
Tim Erixon is a highly skilled young defenseman, who is seen by most to have more potential than Gustafsson, MAB or any of the Flyers youngsters.
Simmonds is a good starting point. Eric Wellwood is a nice depth forward with speed and PK ability, but he's not likely to even be a big scorer. Gus projects as a third pair guy.
