Those were the Glory days, problem is management does not understand that we have supported the Islanders thru everything, even the bad. But expect now to support this lousy team when its main goal is to make sure they make the salary cap floor. Then try and sell a book of BS, then blame the fans for not supporting.
Funny they dont realize is when the Isles made the playoffs last time in the 8th seed, the Coliseum was packed, even tho we got eliminated in the 1st rd, just shows " put a winning product on the ice, fans will come "
But the playoff push starts................NOW!!!!!!!! - Ur Not Me
OK, but which of the high end players were they going to sign, or trade for, this off-season? In the case of a trade, who were they going to trade for who was not overpriced (just for one example, that's WAY too much for Rick Nash, unless Dubinsky is totally damaged goods), or simply wouldn't want to be here, and might possibly pull a Kirk Muller (for another, Bobby Ryan has probably wanted to play for the Flyers since he was five years old, and at some point, he's going to be in a position to do that, regardless of whether or not you trade for him)?
You can only do what you can do....at least the CURRENT regime isn't trading our kids for either useless players, or players who bide their time until they can leave. You also have to remember that the glory team was largely DRAFTED, back in the day when the players drafted were already adults, not 18 year olds, and thus developed faster. Butch Goring wouldn't have been thrilled to get traded to the 2010-11 Islanders, either- but a team clearly on its way to potential glory made leaving sunny California A LOT easier, I'm sure.
Again- Long Island is a great place, once you take the time to figure that out, but until the kids start to gel into something special, all opposing players know is the losing, and "that f*cking sh*thole" across the lot from the hotel. It is what it is.
EDIT: another couple of things- first of all, in the Visnovsky case, Snow would have had ZERO idea about his situation until after the trade; that was completely Anaheim's problem. Second of all, does anyone not think that if Shea Weber would have had an interest in coming here, they'd have put together an offer of one kind or another? Seriously? The guy is the best defenseman in the league, and if butts in the seats are what they're worried about, a statement like that would have been a big one. |

Garth cant do better than this?
BREAKING NEWS: The #Sabres have an OFFER ON THE TABLE for Bobby Ryan: Stafford+Adam+Sekera+1st/ Ball in #NHLDucks court
Holy Crapamole. Seriously??? We can't beat this? 1st, Stafford's NOT a center. Bailey/Strome/Nelson are. Who's Adam? Or Sekera?
And who's 1st pick will likely be higher next year?
How about throw in a 2nd RD Pick for 2014? Is that enough?
I'm not saying sell the farm but sheesh....WE NEED AN IMPACT PLAYER. NO ONES OFFERING THAT MUCH. WE CAN GET THIS GUY. - jmo16
the fact that you said who's adam means your looking at this trade with blue and orange glasses on....first of any news from this twitter feed is all crap but if this is the offer to the ducks...this is a real good one. |

First bold. No it's not. Second bold. Chances are these kids are never going to gel into anything unless they have some help. Third bold. No, I don't believe they would have ever put an offer together for Weber. You are correct they probably would never have a shot in hell due to it being Wang/Snow plus other factors but I don't believe for a second they would anyway. |

I wouldn't mind if Donald Trump jumped in. While I'm not a big fan of Trump, he'll definitely put pressure on everyone to work with him and if they don't he'll call them on it. - kear20

Guys I was thinking about this after my friend brought this up. Im curious of your thoughts about this. I was watching the Olympics and they showed numerous stadiums that are obviously all over London and also on the outskirts. That being said, my friend brought up the idea of how much Long Island would have to be utilized if NYC had won the bidding for this years summer games. Mitchel Field, Eisenhower park etc would prob be expanded and redone, although MF is kinda new. Now I started thinking... many hotels and things would be build. Do you think that if the Olympics were here right now, the TOH would have been forced to do something about the coliseum?
Edit: Keep in mind the city was chosen in 2005. This was right around when the lighthouse was being proposed...no? - Dedshark
exactly zero...all the stadiums would have been within the 5 boroughs... go to youtube and search for 2012 nyc olympic bid...youll see their plan. |

How the heck is this Vis situation not resolved yet? And why is it not even a blip on the radar in the hockey media? Well, I guess question number two sort of answers question number one... |

Thank God for small favors.
I did keep copies of Newsday and some copies of The Hockey News. Finding them may be a problem though. |
