Let's not go overboard. Seeing that makes me think he would drown if the boat wasn't close by. |

Always been part of the game. Especially for top players that are targeted physically. Same as whacks across the arms. |

One Problem:
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman heard from a source Monday that the Rangers are a "long shot" for Cliff Lee and the Dodgers are said to have no interest because of the money involved. Lee is owed $25 million per season from 2013-2015 and carries a $27.5 million club option for 2015 with a $12.5 million buyout. The Phillies could struggle to find a legitimate suitor at this year's deadline.

I would hope Homer has called SJ about Dan Boyle. I know he just turned 36, but I still believe he can play at a high level for the two years left on his contract. The guy plays a ton of games every year. I would have more interest in Boyle then J-Bo. |

I would also. Not sure what SJ would want in return. |

All depends on what we'd have to give up. I'm not keen on breaking up this crop of young talent the Flyers have established. |

Not sure, the Mez + Read package certainly seems to be trade chips of choice for Homer. I'm not sure there is really any long-term solutions available over the next two years for a true #1 d-man, that is why I like Boyle as a short-term bridge.

I wouldn't do this deal. going from Mez to Boyle is at best a lateral move and more likely a step back.
I think they need to be done. Save the cap space, make a deal at the deadline if they have to. That will be a awful big cap hit they can take on at the deadline if things stay as they are.

I dont like trading younger chips (that play heavy minutes) for a 36 year old defenseman. I like Boyle a lot but the asking price would determine whether to pursue or not. I would not deal Mez + Read for him. |

Unless you're willing to give up a Schenn or Couturier, what else do the Flyers have to offer? |

Well, a couple of things. First, I really don't know the asking price, but Mez and Boyle's contract both run out in two years. Mez is younger, but I do believe Boyle is better. Boyle certainly diminishes any concerns on the power play especially if Kimmo isn't ready to go. Honestly, unless Mez shows the play of two years ago, I'm not sure he would be in the long-term plans anyway. If Mez is part of the deal, Boyle is an additional $2.6 million for the same length of time, so he really isn't a cap killer.
I wouldn't be shocked if they offer sheet another young d-man next summer no matter what changes in the CBA. Might as well, if it is in the CBA, who cares if the "old boy" network doesn't like it.

I really like Boyle. He can skate the puck, QB the PP, and plays well in both ends. He is getting older though. Mez and pick for Boyle? Would you make that move? I'm just throwing it out there, not sure it makes sense for either team. |

They already have their Bryzgalov in Niemi. He's just four years younger, $2 mil/season less expensive and only under contract for 3 more seasons. |

I would because I'm really trying to cover two seasons because I'm not sure Mez fits the long-term plans. Boyle gives me the better shot over the next two years of playing in all situations and is a right handed shot. You would think SJ would want to move pieces because they just can't seem to get over the hump in the playoffs. |

Understandable. Unlike some people I like Boyle. He is the type of player the Flyers should be looking at (all depends on cost though). |
