Agreed. The only move that I think would be very good that is still left is if Visnovsky get's his trade revoked and Anaheim still wants to move him for picks. He'd be a great temp solution for a Puck moving D-man. He got moved for a couple of non-1st picks too. If he's willing to move of course. - flyler
When is that whole situation set to be resolved? |

i suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, but the rollins deal is really the least of their issues, imo. galvis is an absolutely dreadful hitter (and that was while on PEDs). - OrangeBlack27
Galvis isn't ready as a hitter that I will agree with but hes definately ready as far as defense goes. The Phillies could of used that 11M to upgrade 3b, LF, CF or relief pitching.
They need to find a way to move some more players. |

Giving Rollins $11M per year was a mistake. Made no sense to make that move. - stveshdy

The mantra "pitching wins championships" comes with the relatively unknown corollary, which is, "Pitching wins championships when the team's offense can outslug a AA team". That's the problem with the Phils. If they had even a MEDIOCRE offense, they would have won the World Series last year. But alas, their offense is comparable to a hockey team's offense when killing a penalty.
I hate Ruben too. He manages this team like a video game. Trade everyone for that sexy option, and go out and dump 9 figures on that sexy free agent. That doesn't work in real life, my friends, as we have seen. He's backed himself into the dreaded corner of an old team with nobody to take the reigns. Now he needs to correct it, and we all know how that's going to work. Tampa Bay Rays, anybody? No? Ok then...how bout the Washington Nationals? Get it?
You know what I hate more than Ruben though? The people that say he made this team a contender. No, ladies and gentlemen, that was Pat Gillick. He brought in this championship core. Ruben just inherited it, and destroyed it using addition by subtraction.
This team has been taking a nosedive since 2008, with the fans and organization either condoning it, or being to ignorant to accept it.
Welcome to multiple 85-90+ loss seasons. Welcome to reality. - Giroux_Is_God
Agree with most of what you said, but I would add that Ed Wade drafted most of the core. Gillick put the pieces in place around them.
The core is still here, and they're older for the most part, and less productive offensively. There are no pieces around them, however. |

there are no 3B upgrades available FA-wise, unfortunately. |

I'l be disappointed if they don't move Blanton. The Oriole were set but the Phils wanted the O's to pay all $3 million. Phils have now back off that demand. Pierre needs to go also since he won't be back. |

I actually thought RAJ did a good job getting pieces this year. Unfortunately Pierre, Fontenot and Wiggington aren't suppossed to be starters. |

It's the GM's job to understand when the "window" of a core has closed. This one has closed. It seemed to me that Ruben didn't realize that and just kept adding and adding using absurd amounts of money and trading prospects.
Not a good gameplan. It seems he's sort of forcing the issue. |

Lee supposedly off the market.
So bottom line is for Tommy Joseph and one year of Pence, Rube gave up two of their best prospects in Singleton and Cosart.

Seems like Rube was banking on another out of this world performance from the pitching rotation to get them by this year. |

Doesn't hit for average and strikes out a lot. Just not in love with the guy. Not much out on the market either but you never know who you can get through a trade.
He would be an upgrade though, I agree with that. |

At some point you have to have some offense. This team doesn't know how to manufacture runs. They dont make contact and rely on the long ball too much. |

Schierholtz isn't a bad player. he's much better than Mayberry. the reliever ha very good upside and Joseph is a top 10 catching prospect. Not bad really, but I agree not near Singleton, Cosart and Domingo Santana who is terring it up. Domingo being PTBNL is a sore spot with me. |

Were they offensive or something? - Giroux_Is_God
The first one was in referrance to Will Ferrel being in Philly and him talking smack to Philly fans. He was completely off base and very confrontational. Got slapped. Then posted another that I didnt get to see because it got pulled. He got slapped again |

who cares about hitting for average? it's been statistically proven that on base percentage has a greater correlation to runs scored and for his career he's a .370 obp away from petco (differences between his home and road splits are vast).
edit: if it makes you happy, he's a career .300 hitter on the road. petco absolutely kills his numbers. |
