wasn't that schenn?
- OrangeBlack27

I'm pretty sure Schenn went for a line change, but Gus was the only guy back in the D zone, and for some reason went off when Schenn went off.

edit: Looks like it was both, but why Gus would leave Lilja in the D zone by himself is beyond me.

I also believe someone turned the puck over and the Flyers thought it was okay to change, could be wrong though.

It was a cluster(frank) of stupidity by all, but why the D decides to change there is beyond me.

If Briere was on D, he would have at least just stood there.

Glad Brown finally got a shot. I hope he stays healthy and tears the cover off the ball the next couple months.

Even if Brown doesn't pan out, they have a platoon option with Schierholtz. He's the best defensive right fielder they've had in a while.

- OrangeBlack27

Schierholtz is a bench player at best for this team in the future. Not an everyday player.

hence why i said platoon. he hits righties pretty damned well. just like mayberry hits lefties well. seems like that kind of platoon wouldn't be a bad backup plan to paying some 30something 25 mil a season.

Don't even want him as a platoon player.

Well we have to give it time. Schierholtz is just a warm body to throw out there the rest of the Season. This team needs 4 everyday position players possibly. And with payroll comittments of 132M to 10 players already. That's going to be tough to do. Not to mention needing bullpen help. The Pence deal doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Other then a salary dump

That was more than just Gustafsson I believe. Two players screwed up on the line change. Difference though is $ and age/experience. What's Briere's excuse? That's right he doesn't have to play defense we only pay him to score and hang out cherry picking.

And to score offside breakaway goals against Pittsburgh.

How do the Yankees get 3B McGehee from the Pirates for Chad Qualls?

Phillies looking for cheaper RF. Pence will make $15m next year not something they were willing to pay.

So the Phillies outfield now is poopholtz, Dingleberry, and Brownstains. A literal poopshow.

it's interesting only because he's a minus player playing in offensive situations against poop competition.

on the other hand with your comparison to g--hewas actually plus-6 playing good competition in defensive situations (took tons of d-zone draws throughout the year).

Restocking the system. Joseph is a really good prospect, and Rosin has a live arm. They also are not stuck paying Pence $15mm next year.

Also, it gets them under the luxury tax threshold, which is probably the biggest reason behind the move. I mean, why get hit with luxury tax if you're going to finish the season in the second division?

Hey if they think they can find a player to give them 25 HR's and 90 RBI's cheaper then that, good luck.

I don't view it as getting stuck paying him 15M next year. He's a very good player and still young. They didn't get enough for him to make it a good baseball deal.

Not even arguing it's a good baseball deal, just that they got something of value to restock the system a bit.

It was said best on Daily News Live Pence was never a guy who would or could carry the team he at best was a guy who could be a good role player in a good lineup.

He certainly is not a $15 million dollar a year player, it overall was a good baseball move.
