I don't disagree. However, I still rather take my chances getting back top tier prospects and having them fail b/c atleast we got back what others around the league rated high. - stveshdy
Joseph was the Giants #2 prospect. Can't get much higher than that. |

Look at one of Valle or Joseph to be moved to acquire a 3b at some point. You have to hope Valle can get his plate dicsipline under control or he'll be a bust. The power is there. - jstross
A Major League 3B or a 3B prospect? Because a prospect isn't what they need.

I guess. Dom Brown was rated top prospect at one point. Who knows. Things can change in one year. Thats why its important to get back as many prospects as possible when dealing a player like Pence. |

Remember when Dom Brown was a 5 tool can't miss prospect? Prospects become suspects real quick. |

It's nothing to do with human nature. It's about baseball. And it's now about a huge RH hole in the lineup, again! So how much does it cost to get a 25 HR, 90 RBI RH bat? - MJL
First, as far as fans go I was dead on about the prospects and human nature.
It's clear the team wasn't doing well with Pence so his $14 million salary was the only one tradable so they got a top 100 prospect and a starting OF plus a big upside reliever. Well see what they do with the extra $12.5 million.
Would you take Pence and Victorino over Schierholtz, Lindblom, Bourne, $12 million and 4 decent prospects? |

No doubt. It's time for Brown to prove his worth or the Phillies need to move on from him. |

What kind of 3rd baseman could you possibly hope to get for either of those two? Are we looking at another 10 plus years of Polanco, Bell, Perez, Nunez, Helms-like players at third? |

He certainly can't field worse than Pence at this point. pence was embarrassing out their and despite a strong arm he made some off line throws. Brown has been hitting the cover off the ball lately so let's hope he keeps it up. |

They didn't get a starting outfielder! Pence's salary this year was 10.5
Bourne has nothing to do with this. He'll be available regardless. |

I agree. Pence was awful in RF and his plate discipline is not very good. I don't think the Phillies were comfortable paying him 15M next year and going over the luxury tax with a team that has one of the worst records in baseball. |

You can get a damn good 3b for a top 100 prospect in a package. Do you guys realize that Joseph is now the Phillies 4th best prospect and probably higher? |

That's an exaggeration. Pence certainly had some struggles in the field this year. But I wouldn't go as far as to call him embarrassing. Look at what Pence did when they had the full lineup in place last Season. That's what the Phillies gave up.

Vacuum!
Phils had no money in FA next year if Pence is still on the team. Your logic in hockey is missing in baseball because there's no hard cap. It's all related! You're better thn this. |

No you can't. You can get another prospect that may or may not work out. Who cares where Joseph is ranked. That's meaningless.

I'm not knocking the Phillies. I just wish they could get even more prospects in the deal. Pence is a proven player at the MLB level. |

he sucked. If I could go back to the strato-matic days he's be an 3, E25. |

Why haven't they fielded a "damn good" 3rd baseman since Rolen if they're so easy to get? |

No, there is no vaccuum. Your talking about something that may happen. I'm talking about what is happening, not trying to predict the future. And if you want to talk about the future and a way to get money for Free Agency? What are the other ways the Phils could create salary space? Since your into questioning other's logic? |

22 HR's, 97 RBI's, 84 Runs Scored, .308 with Houston and .324 with the Phils last year is not exactly what I'd call a bad year. |

Well, you very often call out people who would make deals in hockey saying they would use up too much salary for player X often times impuning their logic. In fact you often point out that Ryan is too expensive salary wise for what it would take to get in terms of prospects. Welcome to RAJ's world and Hunter Pence's! He's not worth the $14 miilion he's projected to get next year. Phillies got a starter, a top 100 prospect and a flier while freeing up $12.5 million. You couldn't expect much more and if you did you'd be over th eluxury tax two straight years and costin the organization tons of money. |
