Burke will be replaced by Keenan.
- Marwood

And around and around they go! That team needs a major culture change from the top down for them to be relevant again.

I agree, this is really getting stupid and (frank)ing irritating...Just move to Quebec...
- Flyfreaky

What exactly are we all waiting for? I know Bettman keeps saying they don't want to move anyone, but clearly ownership isn't the only issue here. This isn't going from bankruptcy to being owned by Nolan Ryan and then instant annual contending. Its a good team that deserves a chance to thrive in a city that wants them. Quebec---Onward---or somewhere else! Mush Yotes!

More importantly, how does the NHL approve an owner that does not have the money to buy the franchise, especially in a market where losses are likely to be extensive?

You will just need a new owner in 2-3 years...

BETMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has used his mind powers against the board of govenors.

Bettman at his finest. Will never admit that the team won't succeed there.

See, that's my point. May be he did have enough money in May. May be he was hoping to negotiate the price. May be the league raised the price. May be... who knows? All I am trying to say is that this is such a mystery and I believe no one really understands what's happening there right now.

Seattle would be a good place. I would prefer another Canadian city. But we know that will not happen. Well at least any time soon.

Seattle probably won't get a team unless a new arena is built. The Key arena is not ideal.

In my opinion. I think cause Jamison owned the Sharks. There was not too much the board could do to say no. How can you vote him in one time, and then refuse him another time.

If the owner can't raise 20 million bucks, how the hell is he going to fund the team? It's not like the Coyotes will be making a profit at all.

The owners need to have a pow-wow and take a hard look at markets that will NEVER (frank)ING WORK and then devise a plan to move the teams where they will have a chance to become viable and profitable...

I'm sure they've got some really smart people working on this and have already done their homework. They're looking 5-10-15 years ahead right now. The NHL sees the US as a sports cash cow and thinks it has to stay relevant in key areas across the country to stay profitable. I imagine they could be looking at other major sports cities that would be interested before settling on a Canadian market (Baltimore, Indianapolis, Kansas City, San Antonio for example). Remember, it's always about money and getting more of it.

It's all about increasing the number of potential tv viewers, and then praying to Ullr that people start watching hockey.

That's why they want to stay in Phoenix - it's a huge tv market.

Don't blame Bettman - he is doing the job that the owners have asked him to do. I think it's a plan that is doomed to failure, but hey, it's not my call.

I question their "really smart people" if average fans can see that the teams in Florida, the Islanders, Yotes, the Preds, and Hurricanes should be moved due to the fact that hockey doesn't work there...

Evidently. The Canucks must have
trained the duo that won the medal at the Olympics for sync diving.

This. This guy needs to come up with another 20 million? No, he needs to come up with about 40 million because that's what it's going to take just for the next two years.

FOLD THE TEAM.

Winning would change everything in my opinion. A few good playoff runs, a Stanley Cup, a Hart trophy winner...Unfortunately nothing good has happened in those markets for a long time and people are just losing interest. Of course Carolina is a bit different having won a cup, but I thnk hockey was alive and well there if I'm not mistaken.

Also, I'm not sure moving teams would help, maybe reducing the league to 28 would work better.

The NHLPA should have all the players throw in 1 million each (+/- depending on salary and years in) with over 600 players or what ever they are at now, you would have at least 600 million dollars to buy the yotes, move them to a city the players know will work and then build a NHL rink and BA BAM... you then help negotiate the next CBA and have a better understanding of how much it takes to run a team...

Think the NHL would let them do that? ha

They would likely go somewhere warm where the taxes are low, like Miami.

They were less out of sync than the 4th place team.

So then a lot of NHL players earning less than 1 million would have to give their entire salaries and pay more from their own pocket?

Interesting article about the Shane Doan saga...

Shane Doan Not Sure Why He Should Get $7 Mil a Year, Either

While NHL bloggers and commentators speculate that Shane Doan, the gritty Phoenix Coyotes winger who is a unrestricted free agent, is up for a big payday, nobody is more confused by why that might be than Shane Doan himself.

“Don’t blame me,” the Coyotes’ captain said. “They’re the ones who think I can bring them the Cup despite only having one significant playoff run in my entire 16-year career.”

Doan was speaking to reporters from atop the sand dune in Arizona he is reportedly to love so much.

“I don’t even know why everybody thinks I like it here so much,” Doan said. “I know [Wayne] Gretzky has a house and some investments out here…but that doesn’t mean every hockey player has a fetish to stay here in Arizona. The golf is okay, but it’s hot as hell.”

Doan elaborated on his thoughts about the 4 year, $30 million contract he is rumored to be offered.

“If they want to give me that much, I won’t tell them no,” he said. “But why on earth they would they give a guy who has only had two 30 goal years out of a 16-year career with almost no playoff experience?”

Doan added: “I guess that whole ‘leadership’ thing hockey writers who have never really played hockey think Canadian players who throw a body check once in a while have. That fairy tale is gonna get me rich.”

The Coyotes’ captain, who has only been past the second round of the playoffs once in his long career – a 5 games series loss in the Western Conference finals to the Los Angeles Kings this past season – says he is reluctant to be seen as a playoff savior who can be the magic piece a Cup-contending team is missing.

“Let’s be real here,” Doan said. “I’m more used to playing golf in June than hockey. But if the Rangers want to offer me all that money because they think I’ll get them the Stanley Cup, I won’t say no. At least me and Rick Nash will have something in common: no playoff experience.”

The Real Hockey News attempted to interview Greg Jamison, the businessman who is in talks with the NHL to buy the Coyotes franchise, but he said he could not afford the cab fare to the meeting. In a phone call, Jamison told The News: “Doan should sign wherever he wants because honestly – I’m not even serious about buying the team. I’m broke! I just wanted an excuse to play some golf with Wayne Gretzky.”

Although it looks like Doan will be relocating to a new team this summer, the 36-year old winger said it doesn’t matter where he ends up.

“Wherever I go, they better have a good doctor,” Doan said. “I’m almost 40 and haven’t had a major injury my entire NHL career. So, basically – I’m due.”
