not saying he should be a lock, but im surprised Kimmo doesnt really appear anywhere. He'd make my top 10. the dude is a warrior - Crimsoninja
Yep. I went with Van Impe over him for the tenth spot. Kimmo is easily a better overall player than Vam Impe was, but I just loved that whole Kharlamov scene so much I gave him the nod.
For anyone that was alive then, and aware of the world and political dynamics of that time, Van Impe destroying Kharlamov like that was almost bigger than the sport itself. And when the Flyers scored 17 seconds after the game resumed and went on to beat the Red Army team 4-1 in that game, he became a legend.

When you have to pick 10 Flyers its tough. He's definitely in top 10 defensemen to play for the Flyers, I just don't know about top 10 of all time. For me Beast and Howe were Legends with the two finals against Edmonton especially 87, due to that year I don't like to utter how long its been since a cup. That year to me was so magical a cup would have been superficial because that team is group of Champions to me. Freaken Edmonton was just stacked too damn much and the Flyers were too banged up. I firmly believe a healthy or playable Tim Kerr puts them over the top that year. |

Damn, I'm ashamed to admit this but I forgot about McCrimmon. Especially poor on my part considering his recent untimely passing.
The other D-man I was wavering on was Glen Cochrane. He wasn't a great player but he was a huge fan favorite and he and Howe made an unstoppable pairing. |

There actually a lot more good defensemen than some fans give the Flyers credit for. Not many Norris candidates but there other skill sets like those that Cochrane and Beast brought that make them valuable and deadly to the opposition. Im sure you know this, I'm just throwing it out there for elaboration. I've had people tell me Therien with Desjardin was better but without looking at stats, I just know Howe and Beast were more capable of shutting down the league's elite, that is in no way a knock on on Therien or Desjardins either. But Howe is in the Hall and I'm sure he will be the first to say that McCrimmon had a lot to do with that. |

No Flyers defense pair approached Howe & McCrimmon in effectiveness. |

They were my favorite guys off those 1980's teams. Me and my brother in law have their jerseys. McCrimmon is the jersey I choose to wear more than any of the others I have
