Agreed.
That doesn't necessarily mean the prospects will ever play for the big club, and that's how these trades will be judged. - 77rams
That's the chance you take in baseball. You see trades like this 95% of the time. Hopefully, at the very least, Tommy Joseph can be a key component in a few seasons. |

Or Joseph or Valle could end up being a piece in a trade for a 3b or other need. The relief pitcher Lindblom is probably the Phils #2 reliever at this point so that should help the Pen. |

Our system is at an all time low here. What has happened to the Flyers bringing up there own players. There is no development. - Pillar
Actually, the all-time low would have been right after the lock-out. Richards, Carter and Sharp had moved up. The Flyer prospects then were headlined by: Stefan Ruzicka, Alex Picard and Ben Eager. The next few years got better with Potulny, Parent, Powe, Downie and Kalinski. Of course Giroux would be in that group, but moved quickly from prospect status to the NHL. Still, the last ten years have not been a relaible pipeline for the big club. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Ranking the Top-10 Flyers Prospects - bmeltzer
Bill, nice list to start the conversation, but I would make a couple changes.
Manning should be moved up to #2 IMO. The kid has good vision, size and hands. I would say that if he had not gotten hurt last summer, he would be much higher on the depth chart. He WILL be a productive Flyer.
Lauridsen isn't as close to the NHL as you indicate. Yeah, he is a big guy, but his decisions under pressure are horrendous. Instead of describing him as David Printz with a higher penchant for dropping the gloves, I would compare him to Nate Guenin with an extra three inches.
Dead-on with your assessment of Tye McGinn. Definite possibilities here. He has the work ethic that can make the difference. Just the opposite with Blake Kessel though. Zero work ethic and anything but a team player. |

I love watching this Flyers replay...you can hear the disappointment in the announcers voices that they keep coming back
EDIT:
Theyre replaying the entire Pens/Flyers series today, right now its Game 2 3rd period.....I think I take Coburn for granted, never again
EDIT EDIT:
Its also great to see the best player for Pens the whole series is Staal...... |

Let's not forget Anaheim wants the moon and stars for him, and he's simply not worth that in a trade. If Ryan was from Toronto, nobody'd care about getting him. - Jsaquella

Developing is different than drafting or signing. Read and Harry Z basically came up straight from college as free agent signings. I can't give the Flyers (or half a dozen games in ADK) credit for developing their games. Holmstrom has had a cup of coffee and a good emergency fill-in. Not sure about him making this list based on productivity to-date.
Can the Flyers take credit for "developing" Couturier? They drafted him and he stepped in. Not a lot of time or effort expended there since the Flyers were not monitoring his junior play like they have been with Noebels.
The rest of the list is fine. I think if MAB can overcome the doink issues, he will be a fine player. He has a shot that he hasn't been able to show much of as a Flyer yet.

Yes, same as they can take the blame for rushing Zubrus. In both cases, the choice NOT to send the player back to juniors was the Flyers' decision - and plays into their development. |

Does his contract suggest a two year window for him to win the prize or else Terry Murray makes a reappearance behind the bench?
Just thinking out loud. - 77rams
I'd say yes to the window, no to the Murray thing. IF Hitchcock was more younger player friendly, I'd love to have him back, but if and when the Flyers decide to part from lavy I want a coach who that brings a more balanced system. Who I don't know but when that time comes I'll have a better idea of who the viable candidates are. Heck in two years Dave Tippet might be out of a job again... |
