ya i live in montreal, been to edm, and its not even comparable lol. mtl is miles ahead of edm as a city. city is more beautiful, 1 of the best cities in the world during summer, hot girls everywer and its not minus 40 all winter long which last longer in edm. btw you can drink at 18 and life is cheaper, except for rent lol These are a few reasons and i dont know why someone would choose edm over mtl - washingtonsux

Oh another facetious comment. Well done. Oh wait, a Coyotes fan, that explains it. - ruttager17
Montreal is 20 times the city Edmonton is, and I even liked Edmonton. Montreal is just so much nicer. Don't fool yourself |

I'm sure this was the Habs mod. They used to complain about me pointing out the negatives about the Habs in THEIR threads, now they can't handle it in Oilers threads? |

sorry to inform you, but in actual montreal probably around 80% of the population is bilingual. I have to search for people who dont speak english. every one learns english in high school |

I do not like Subban.
I think his attitude is terrible. However, it's can be downplayed/corrected. With the talent he has if he straightens himself out, he's a top-pairing guy and one of the better two way guys in the league for the next 10+ years.
However, even with the attitude issues, he's still likely a top-pairing guy regardless, he'll just never reach his potential.
On the other hand, we have a dynamic junior player, yet to play a single NHL game who already has had major knee surgery.
One is a proven commodity that any team would want, one is a prospect based solely on projection.
I've seen Subban up close when he was in the AHL. His talent is undeniable. He's proven to be successful in the NHL, and not as a bottom pairing guy. Defensemen are at a premium, specifically guys that can play both ways and log minutes.
The only knock on Subban is you'd have to pay him (wants long-term deal worth $$) and his attitude.
Yakupov, as much as he's a top prospect, hasn't done anything yet, and the major knee surgery is a flag (don't care that he's recovered, those are scary injuries that can become problematic...let's use another Russian winger famous for goal scoring ex: see Bure)
Again, as much as I dislike Subban as a player, he's worth more than Yakupov. If Yakupov had a good to great rookie year (say at minimum 20+ goals, 50+ points) then I'd say one for one maybe makes sense. As is, Subban is worth more, even with the contract demands.
Top-pairing defensemen who is young who still possesses potential to become better > undersized goal scoring winger who's a top prospect but is coming back from a major knee injury.
Trades generally never match up how they should (equally, and I don't mean how they pan out, I'm talking just upfront at the time of the deal value), plus considering the scenario/issues, this would never happen and likely never even be thrown around as far as consideration (deal involving both these players). |

So apparently you know very little about Edmonton. I agree that Montreal is a beautiful city. Probably second to only Quebec City in Canada. Yes I have been to both, I've been the majority of cities in Canada other than the ones on those silly islands. During the summer Yakupov is probably going to home to Russia. And besides there are hot girls everywhere, especially during the summer where the seem to crawl out of the magic hot girl cave. Montreal gets more snow than Edmonton does, Edmonton does get cold, but it's -40 all that often. I think it hit -40 three times last winter. As for the drinking age being 18, guess which two provinces have 18 as the legal age. If you guess Alberta and Quebec you would be correct. And for a guy who is probably going to be making $3.775M in his first year that the living cost in a city doesn't matter. |

Your post contained inflammatory words about someone's life. That's not appropriate, and you know it. This has nothing to do with the Habs. Had it been about Phaneuf....well, bad example, but you get the point. It has nothing to do with "handling". Not much is required to handle you. |

I don't live there. I spent my first 23 years there, and have been gone for 20 years. But your statement is not an accurate one. In Montreal itself, the number is around 80% for bilingualism and you can ALWAYS find someone to speak English, especially in the downtown area. I am not doubting that perhaps you endured a negative experience - I had several when I grew up there - just that your statement is a generalization. |

We barely had a winter in Edmonton last year... it was -20 for a few days in Nov I think and then it was right around 0 - -10 for the rest.

A recent study has showed that there are more people who can speak english in Montreal than people who can speak french.
I find this disturbing but it shows that most French people in Montreal can speak english and some immigrants learn english first (or never learn french at all).
So yeah, you're fine if you don't speak french. |
