updated capgeek LTIR number plz
- Crimsoninja

LTIR makes no difference unless Flyers go over the cap. Even if they add someone like Colaiacovo, they should still be under the cap. However, they would have about $8.9 million between Pronger and Meszaros LTIR if needed.

It's a bit trickier, though, as you have to account for Meszaros (hopefully!) coming back at some time during the season.

i think that was bill's point about adding someone like CC and still being under the cap..... he means under the cap without even dipping into any LTIR exemptions. no moves would be needed to bring meszaros back, unless they went a more expensive route

He'd be back late in the season, though, and the Flyers would already have Pronger's remaining LTIR allowance to offset it.

What is the story on someone like Chris Campoli? Im just going up and down the list of FA defensemen.

There's been no shortage of misfortune when it comes to news about our blueline, but thems the breaks. Hopefully others will step up.
- BulliesPhan87

The Flyers must be one of the most unlucky teams since 08. Remember how many goalies we went through? Then lost Pronger in 2010 to surgery, and we had the best record in the NHL and fell big time... Then last year... Not just our defense, but JVR, Briere, Giroux, Jagr, Schenn.... and the big one with Pronger... Now we lost out on Carle, Jagr is gone, and Meszaros is hurt...

Now our division is the best division in the league by far. Rangers got better, Penguins have 3 of the best players in the game, and the Devils are SC finalists... Thank god for the Islanders, even though they are getting better.

Maybe we should just use this year to retool again.

just a thought...

there's a reason those two, along with rosival are still on the market with teams like philly, detroit and nashville, among others, looking for d-help...

y'all think schenn is a top-four d-man?

he was barely a bottom-pairing d-man with toronto

- b0s0o1

True, and not true. Schenn 2 years ago played a top role in Toronto. And he may not be now, but he is absolutely a future top 4 defenseman.

Bill, 2 questions... First who is the Avatar? and second do LTIR players count as contracted players, or will the Flyers have to move some contract out if they dont want to send cousins back to juniors?

yessir. He was terrible last year. Watched him closely, maybe he was just terrible against the flyers. He can not be thrown in a top 4 situation right off the bat. He will improve but can't put him there now
- Just5

Why not? With the right partner, he can play 20 minutes a night. He's shown he can do it in the past.

Players on LTIR count against the 50 man reserve list.

Yea I don't think its fair to write schenn off or say he is a finished product just yet when its happened quite a few times in history when a player picks it up down the road. Especially with a second team.

Avatar is Big Al Meltzer.

Cousins is likely to need another year of junior hockey, but Flyers aren't currently forced to slide his contract. They are at 48 non-slide eligibles and 2 slides (Cousins and Mathers).

Yes, LTIR players count as contracted players on reserve list.

I think at this point if I were Homer I would sign one of the remaining UFA's and then wait and see that the new CBA brings. If there is a buyout clause, you never know who might become available. Redden might be decent at a cheap price... Maybe Florida lets Campbell go.... Who knows. Or maybe Lecavalier gets bought out and you can sign him and trade some of your youth for a number 1 guy.
- SchennBros

I wouldn't hold out hoping for a buyout clause in the new CBA.

He's definitely not a bust. But his lack of footspeed is what is currently holding him back from taking the next step.

Like most Leafs fans, I really hope the kid develops. Nobody has a bad thing to say about him.

But Flyers fans need to have realistic expectations about him (too many Leafs fans didn't).
