I'll pass on Kaberle, as he is signed through next Season. If he was on the last year fo his deal, then maybe. - MJL
Do you think Kimmo retires after this season? |

Would you trade a 2nd or 3rd for Gonchar? |

interesting move... - jak521
Flyers usually get their 1st round picks signed quickly. The contract can slide for the next two seasons if need be; will almost definitely slide this season.

He actually had a pretty solid year last season.. bounced back a bit from a pretty shoddy season the year before. |

He put up 37 points last season and was a -5... his 37 points was one behind Matt Carle. The guy can still play. |

This way, it's taken care of (and the contract can slide with no reserve list or salary cap implications). It locks him in at a certain salary in case the rookie max goes up in the next CBA in exchage for a longer wait for FA status. Last but not least, it shows the player the team regards him highly.
It wouldn't have been a big deal if the Flyers had waited to do this part of the way through next season but teams don't like to go into the second year with a first-round pick unsigned (unless they've quickly oured on him, he's gotten injured, etc). |

Yea now that I think of it, I guess it is normal to see them get signed during the first season... I guess (aside from Couts who was a different case) its just been such a long time since we had a 1st round pick to sign |

That happens all the time with older players; they have one final good year after have a bad year or two and then go on to play poorly again the next year. I wouldn't give up any type of asset for Gonchar also considering how poor he is in his own end. He's 38 now. I'd rather take a chance on someone else. |

I would agree that I would rather take the chance on another player, but I still think he would do a serviceable job on the back end from an offensive and puck moving standpoint |

Wonder if the new CBA will see the rookie contract max go up or down. |

Seems like under the Holmgren watch, draft picks the team really likes seem to get signed pretty fast |
