Ever think about the possibility that given the incredible overtures EK has made about minute signings like Joel Ward, POS players like Richard Park and standard trades like JVR for Schenn, the GI-(frank)ING-NORMOURS umbrella that is his use of the word 'major' might extend to nobodies like Leopold and Gagner?
Rather than assume it's RNH and Myers, why not assume that Ek gets overly excited about mere hockey minutia? Or better yet, assume the whole thing is a pack of lies. - Morris
You might be right. MSM felt that the Kassian Hodgson trade was a "major" trade.
Here is what I consider a "major" trade: Pat LaFontaine traded from New York Islanders with Randy Hillier and Randy Wood to Buffalo Sabres for Benoit Hogue, Uwe Krupp, Dave McLlwain and Pierre Turgeon |

it's all good .. - gerbe75pts
Couldn't resist pointing it out. I think if the subban things goes down it be hall + coming back injuries and such subban has shown more in a position that most don't mature till later at. |

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH that was awesome.
Surprised? an oil fan wanting to unload the worse contracts all the time in their trade ideas? Why not add in Belanger too and the sabres will kick in Adam LOL |

Does Edmonton have any other center besides Nugent-Hopkins or Gagner that would be considered a top-six center? Like even a player that may have played center early in his career or in juniors? - BuffSabs88
Lander played to some repute in the SEL. Pitlick was drafted as a centre and played top 6 in Medicine Hat. Martindale played top 6 for the 67s. Kyntar and Vandevelde played top 6 in Saskatoon and OKC respectively.
And of course a scant three years ago Shawn Horcoff looked like a promising NHL 2nd line centre.

I'm totally calm, I just think you're quite closed minded about this. You're adding Gagner as a precursor to another deal. I agree 100% that as it stands right now Buffalo has no need for him, but they could depending on what else they have in the works. And the simple fact is, if Gagner goes Edm wants a guy who can potentially be a 2C coming back. It's not gonna be 1 for 1. - BarDownBobo
who knows you guys might want Adam in this so called "deal" |

I've driven around Buffalo...it's actually the worst North American city I've been in. The Main strip makes me sad. - clarkysduster
You are an IDIOT!!
I use to live in Buffalo.
Buffalo has the most friendliest people in the world!
And FYI, Buffalo's suburbs, like Amherst, , Lancaster, ... is a great neighborhood.
I miss that area. |

I know oil fans have a huge Boner for Hall, Eb's, Hopkins, and Nail. But the cap world will not work for the oil if they don't trade one of them. They need a goalie, major help on D. Dubbie is not a goalie i would get excited about. Whitney is awesome(if he were to play) Look how good the preds did/do with NO offense To win you need a Solid D with a great goalie. I know Hall was the poster boy for the Re-build but I would trade him for a Some top d/man/goalie. I thought at the draft a trade where the habs swapped picks with the oil and exchange gagner for subban would work best for edmonton. Don't know how habs feel about that?? But i know Hall plays too risky, he needs to sit back and read what is going on like Hopkins does and for that reason i would trade him and only him for what the oil need really bad. Can't afford to pay all those guys 6-7.5 Mill each and still not have a goalie or D. |

What makes you think that all four will be making 7.5 million? And won't Hall be worth a lot more in a trade when he's worth 7 million contract dollars than he is right now? |

RNH better be coming back then - gerbe75pts
wow... intelligent...
RNH isn't going anywhere, Hall is not a center. seriously come on here.
the obvious 3rd line guess is Paajarvi,
also he said significant d-man, not star. and a prospect or possibly Enroth who would fit in as a nice split with dubey but where does that leave habby?
It would be nice if Buffalo took habbys contract and gave us McNabb another regina boy for eberle to and a big body that fits our timeline but more likely Regehr. the question is would you trade habbys contract (was the best in the league for the first 15 games last year but appears more useless and overpaid now)Gagner(mr 8 pts in a game), Paajarvi (with a great first season and then sophomore slump should be much better this year, solid 2nd line in my books) for Enroth (solid #2 goalie to share the load with dubey and a prospect for a prospect trade for paajarvi with edm losing out on this) Regehr (5 points and -12 in 76 games last season for over 4 mill? talk about a bad contract. time he moves on and Oil can take him and use him... a bit. this is a swap for bad contracts) and then it becomes Gagner and the bad end of Paajarvi for Enroth and the bad end of habby for Regehr for who? Edmonton needs a top 2 line center and Buffalo drafted 2 new top 3 centers, the only question is who is coming to Edmonton? given gagner's recent 8 pt night, 47pt season he is a young all heart player, guaranteed to be a good top 6 center because he already is. obviously I would love grigorenko but lets look a the possible options:
Buffalo is now overstocked at Center with Ott, Leino, McCormick, Hodgson, Grigorenko, Grigensons, Porter, etc all chanllenging for 4 roster spots. lets say Grigorenko becomes the new #1 he is expected to, Grigersons takes the 4rd line, Hodgson takes 3rd and newly aquired Gagner takes the number 2 line. obviously many flaws but bear with me. That leaves all 4 centers (yes trades and such made more space but the point is still valid) from last year out in the cold, so take your pick. Edmonton needs a big solid playmaking 2 way center for the second line between Yakupov and potentially Hemsky or Hall (Hemmer will need to move left or be traded as with Eberle and Yakupov the skilled top 2 line right wings are full up) just give us Grigorenko and be done with it, Gagner is a proven, young, still developing heart and soul guy not projected as good as Girgorenko but with the other 2 guys it makes up for it and the key word is still `projected`. At least it makes more sense than saying Hall or RNH.

So basically if this rumor is true the Sabres would be after either Nuge or Gagner. And since it's highly unlikely that the Oilers would even consider trading Nuge, Gagner is the likely target. If this is the case I don't see a real reason to trade away much for Gagner. He'd be a third line center for the Sabres this season. |

Last year your top center had 44 pts, Gagner had 47pts on the year. yes one simple stat doesnt show everything but he brings a lot more as well and I would doubt very much he would drop to the 3rd line |
