Everyone overvalues their players, some just more than others. RNH is as close to untouchable as they come, due to potential and his position.
Hard to fill the hole he would leave open.
Pilgor would try though - abware
i totally understand, just edmonton fans seem to be really bad with this. with hemsky and gagner it pisses me off to no end. however, with RNH they are totally in the right. im not saying the kid is the next gretzky, but he is the premier prospect at the most important position in the game. yes he is a little lanky, yes he had an injury, but he has shown absolutely tremendous skill in his rookie year right after being drafted. no time back in junior, no time in the minors. the players that dont get that luxury of time and yet still produce are typically the upper level stars in this league. to think that he can be had for spare parts is laughable. even for myers, who i think is a very valuable piece in his own right, is still not a trade i would move rnh for. |

It's either going to be good players for good players (myers, ehrhoff, rnh, eberle, hall) or poopty players for poopty players (ganger, sekera, &c.). It won't be myers or ehrhoff for your poopty players, and seeing that myers and ehrhoff are untouchables and rnh, hall, eberle, and yakupov are untouchables then it leaves us with poopty players for poopty players and that's boring and I'd prefer to not do a trade like that at all unless somehow it turns into a three way deal with another team for a big name player. It's just that the ganger and pick/hartikanen for myers posts are getting tiresome because buffalo doesn't need to add more 2nd/3rd liners at this point. Myers is one of buffalo's prized players if he's going we'd better get a prized player in return. Sorry just kind of rambling but this is how this whole "rumor" has made me felt. |

Hemsky and Gagner are undervalued by lots of fans which causes protective over rating by lots of Oiler fans. Their true value/worth is somewhere in the middle. Also they have more value to the Oilers because they fill a hole and we are familiar with them and what they are capable of. When you have seen a guy play hundreds of times and seen tons of great plays you get a little jaded and are sure they can do it on a consistent basis.
Edit: and some fans are just straight up homers |

Im sure they're quite aware of that. Its just that unless they're getting at least equal value in return, certain players are highly highly unlikely to move. I know that moving some young assets worked out well for your team, but the Kings were also at a far different point in their progress when they made that move, than the Oilers are in theirs. Moving any of Hall, Eberle, RNH or even Yakupov for anything less than a proven top dman makes no sense. You grow a core and fill the holes later. Moving part of the core for middling help is counterproductive and makes no sense. |

as for the Gretzky reference, it may have played out like a trade but in reality it was a sale. please, never reference that dark day again. |

hemsky is insanely talented, but yeah, he really doesnt have a ton of value. paulie martin has a real knack for a sweet interception now and again. but he doesnt have poop for value. im just appreciative to be talking to a realist |

Financial mismanagement. Coffey wanted more. They didn't give it to him. They did get Simpson back and he was a pretty good Oiler for a few years.
Mess was pissed that they let Adam Graves go and also wanted a new deal. once again, they didn't budge. Mess demanded out. Bernie Nicholls did have some goal scoring pedigree.
What can I say? Financial idiocy killed the dynasty, and the 90s exposed their horrendous drafting and development system that had been brutally neglected during the dynasty. Peter Pocklington is hated in Edmonton for a good reason. |

I agree. Not sure that is a major deal. The only major defenseman that buffalo has is Myers. Deal is probably gagner and hartikainen for Myers and a prospect. Richard just won't put hartikainen in any potential deal because of the man crush he has for him. - oilcountrysask
hahahahahahha! only an oiler fan would put together a deal that terrible. if myers is going anywhere, hall, nuge, eberle or yak are coming to buffalo. myers and suckera for scraps lol . in a dream world. myers and suckera for hall (or eberle) and gagner. thats the only way that myers gets moved is for one of your "untouchables. |

As a fan who jumped onto the Penguins wagon in the early 90's it was nice to see the Penguins acquire Coffey, he was slightly important in those two cup wins. Didn't Graves leave as a RFA or whatever the early 90's equivalent of an RFA was. |

i honestly think buffalo is looking to trade with philly because we have a ton of defenseman and in return we are looking at either briere or talbot. leino briere hartnell line in philly was a good line, buffalo might look to mimmick or the may just want talbot's toughness and youth and cheap contract. |

Everyone sensible knows the realities. They're well covered. Neither team really has any right talk smack. I saw several Buffalo fans suggest deals where they acquired RNH without giving up Myers. Both teams fanbases have unrealistic homers. Lets all just..stop. |

They will. Trading him for another dman that we already have several of just creates a hole at 2nd line C. |
