new CBA might change that... or eliminate offer sheets all together.
Either way, how many offer sheets get thrown around each year?
0.5? - robin_steele264
if the new cbs doesn't change that and the salery cap continues to go up, expect more weber like contracts for big market teams. people were already talking about pieterangelo and I'd put hall and eberle right there with him for value. |

Well the Oilers are more than capable of spending money.

Your kidding right?
Gormley will be good, but not ahead of Klefbom and Schultz.
And Erixon is never going to be more than a 5-6 guy which we have plenty of? - Iggysbff

Gormley was a top 5 pick, and i've haven't read anything that says he is off that pace so i expect him to be a #2 d-man.
Erixon put up some very good numbers for a dman in the SEL, and had an above average first year in NA, he is tracking well. Give me a link where one person thinks Erixon will be a 5-6 dman |

Both of those players, if the oilers don's make competitive offers for, are great options for offer sheets. those could/would be upwards of 7 mil. (2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd) - ChrisMS
Weber signed one, so more are totally coming!! HURRR DURRRRRRR |

Random thought: I don't think yaks will play on the oilers at the start of the season. I think they will send him down. Call it a gut feeling. |

Oilers D will surprise many this year.
That paired with strong goaltending.
Playoffs or bust.

UNPOSSIBLE.
In seriousness, I think that's fairly unlikely to happen. Especially considering they would have to send him back to juniors. |

Why? Why risk it? Your not a rebuilding team anymore, maybe missing a couple things here and there.. but you have talent on your team now. Send him down, let him develop. See what the boys can do this year, then call him up. |

Why risk it?
If he's good enough to make an impact in the NHL, which he most likely is, and help the team win, then why waste his time playing kids he can dominate?

Fair point. I just think.. and I mean this with all due respect.. that the oilers again this year won't do much. More then last year though. My point is you already have talent. Just see how far they can get you first before you risk ruining this kids development.

How does letting him play in a league hes too good to play in help his development?
Oilers need help scoring goals, and he will do nothing but help that.
If hes good enough to make the team, you never take his spot away for any reason. If he earns his spot, he should get it.

If he earns it I agree. And yes, if he is good enough to make the team he should play. But those are big ifs are they not? And what do you do if hes to good for juniors but not good enough too play in the nhl? |

He'll make the team. I dont see too many scenarios where someone else takes his spot in the top 6-9.
But, for the first time the oilers have the depth to truly shelter his minutes abit. Which they absolutely should do. Gravy pp and 5 on 5 time, but low overall minutes. At least outta the gate. |

But fans of other teams think they'll all want 7.5 mill and screw us over!
*runs off screaming* - robin_steele264
You don't think "what goes around come around" will come into play? You better bet your ass the agents of Eberle, Hopkins, Hall, will wait for a offer sheet to be signed. I hope they all hold out for 6-7 mill each and some GM like, i dunno Darcy comes around and puts "we will match any offer sheet" to the test. |

Lowe, Tambi and MacT are shooting themselves in the feet with the inactivity. They could have signed Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle to six year, $5.5mil per season contract extensions a few months ago. Because they've done nothing, stupid teams like Carolina have overpaid someone like Jeff Skinner on his extension, driving up what Hall and Eberle will expect to receive. If the offensively-skilled but one dimensional Jeff Skinner is a $5.725mil per season player starting in 2013/2014, you can pencil Hall and Ebs in at $7mil per each. Thanks Jim Rutherford. Having one Jay Feaster in the NHL was bad enough. Now we have two. Didn't Rutherford also give the incredibly overrated Jordan Staal 10 years, $60mil? Moronic.
Really? I mean, really really? |
