i still don't get the Lilja signing. not for 2 yrs. would not surprise me if they expose him to waivers
- nastyflyergirl

They can do that hoping someone claims him. But he still stays on the Cap if he clears and they send him down.

I completely disagree.. He is exciting and what not, but not near the total player that Nash is.

am i the only one who thought lilja was perfectly serviceable before the injury? i don't mind him as a #6/7 at all.
- Don'tForgetTocchet

It was a solid signing. He was exactly what he was supposed to be.

I don't get it being 2 years. I understood one year, but two made it count this season on the cap no matter what.
- Jsaquella

thats what i mean. i was fine with one yr. just did not get 2.

yeah i know. i just mean to see if they have any takers. if he clears i would expect them to keep him on the roster. i don't dislike him as a depth dman. I just don't want to see him before some of the young kids like Bourdon

He is an exciting player to watch. He has an edge to his game, some finesse, scores pretty goals and is a lock for 30 goals a year... but he also plays with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. That will open up a ton of space for anybody... I cant even imagine the damage that Nash would do on a line with the two of them..

Nash is a MUCH better two way player.

He was a servicable 6/7 guy.. no doubt. But if he is gonna be the 6/7 I have a problem with it.. I would much rather see the younger guys get to work through that role.

I dont get 2 years deals at all for guys who are 6/7 depth d-men playing in that role. I dont get why Gervais is getting two years either..

The cap may not be as much of a problem this year. The issue would be that you don't want MAB and Gus up in the press box for half the season.

I'm ok with him getting sent down or waived. I just don't want to trade a 5th plus Lilya for a 7th.

If Lilja isn't needed, he can sit in the pressbox for the remainder of the season, if that's how it goes. Sending him down seems like wasted effort.

Should there be a lockout have they discussed what to do with Schenn & Couturier in trying to get the AHL time?

If they try to send Bourdon to the Phantoms, he'll most likely be playing for someone else.
- MJL

We kind of assumed the same with Bartulis... there's a penchant for fans to overrate homegrown prospects. Did MAB fill in admirably last season? Yes. Is he at the level where another NHL team would want to devote a roster spot/contract slot on him? Harder to say. Waiver status be damned, he's still a long way from having a spot in the top-7 sewn up.

Chalk it up to more careless negotiating by the Flyers on July 1... for some reason they really wanted to take Lilja off the market right away, and they willingly handcuffed themselves to his cap hit to make it happen. With all the comparable and superior players that were still on the board at that time, it was an odd decision at best.

Bruno Gervais I believe will be in the lineup. Just my guess.
- stveshdy

Maybe. Bruno's played More games and has more points, but MAB was playing 20 minutes a night under Lavy before he got hurt, shouldering a lot of responsibility. I would not be surprised if Bourdon got paired with Kimmo for a while. Lavy likes him and does not seem to have an issue with him playing big minutes. (Bruno was averaging close to 15 minutes a night)

I agreed that Nash is better... However, you can't discount some of the intangibles... The fact that Ryan wants to play here and Nash is at minimum a neutral. And, from what I've seen - Ryan is more of a hard nose Flyers-type of a guy. And, I'm not sure about the ego Nash would bring.

Gus can be sent to the Phantoms without passing waivers and while MAB can't. Lavy likes Bourdon and was giving him a much bigger role just before he was injured. He wasn't putting up a ton of points but he was on the plus side. I think Minute-wise Bourdon is going to have to prove himself again, but that Lavy has already shown confidence in his play.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't be surprised to see Manning leapfrog both MAB and Gus... he's a much closer analog to Mez... physical, aggressive, nice shot.

I agree. He has the tools to possibly develop into a 2nd pairing guy down the road.
