Couturier turns 20 before the end of the calendar year, and is waiver exempt until he reaches 160 games played (regular + postseason) -- so he can play there, if need be. - bradleyc4
Would he be allowed to? Or would he have to go to his JR team? |

I agree you need someone like that, but heres my question. You said earlier that you thought they were giving him two years so they didnt have to hit the market and get someone for that role this off season. But isnt that exactly what they did when they signed Gervais?
I dont get giving those guys 2 years deals.. - jak521
Yes and no. When they signed Lilja, the Flyers had Pronger, Carle, and Meszaros. This off Season, Pronger is done. Meszaros is coming off a major injury, they lost Carle. So they one, needed some veteran depth. And secondly, Lilja is done after this year. And Gervais takes over that role next Season. And Gervais is an upgrade over Lilja. And is a better choice to play a regular every game role then Lilja is. |

#1 unit likely to be:
Harts/G/Simmonds
Kimmo/Czechie
#2 ??? I have no clue ???
Couts/Briere/Schenn
Coburn/Read - Marc D
I think with no Jagr and no JVR you have to break up Simmonds and Hartsy. Plus I want G to hold the puck more, and a shooter with him on the 1st line.
Also, I like vorachek down low vs. at the blue line. What about Couts as the 4th forward?
Harts / G / B Schenn
Kimmo / Couts
Simmonds / Briere / Jake
Coburn / Read |

With the continuing injury woes, I'm really not surprised they're stocking up on depth. It seems most expect Gervais to be a lock for the top six at this point, so I guess they wanted another veteran (a younger one, at that) on the depth chart ahead of Lilja. |

I like those units except I like Couts on the boards and going to the net rather then on a point.
They were playing kind of an umbrella last year with one point guy shifting to center and going 1-3-1 with Jake going from pt to the right wall.
I like having Jake on the 2nd unit as he is a guy like giroux and Kimmo who can transition the puck up ice and cross the blue line without just resorting to dump and chase.
Although Hartsy and Simmonds were deadly together in front of the net.

I see potential of MAB to be a full time NHL defenseman. Saying he has the tools and potential to be a legit top 4 D man is a stretch. - MJL
Well, projections like this are inherently speculative in nature, so, of course it could be considered a "stretch" to peg him as such today, but I've seen certain attributes and abilities from him that tell me he has that top four potential. IMO, it's just a question of him staying healthy and getting the opportunity, in time, to develop into that role.
Defensively, I was very impressed at Bourdon's ability to neutralize attacks into the zone by using his stick and physical game against the likes of Eric Staal and other top players. He also showed good awareness in defending players in the slot, often using his considerable strength, quick stick and positioning to negate potential tip ins/deflections. He's also showed coolness under pressure, making a number of heady plays to get the puck out of the zone.
Offensively, I think he's only scratching the surface of what he can do. He was a top scoring D man in Junior and thus far in the NHL has only shown flashes of his abilities in the offensive zone. He's got a pretty good shot, as evidenced by his leading the flyers D men with .36 goals per 60 mins of icetime (5v5). Also noteworthy was his being just behind Timonen for second on the team on offensive zone finishes.
From what I can gather, he's a good character guy...he'll stick up for his mates and throw down if needed and is a nice, humble and respectful guy off the ice.
From what I've seen, I think if he can avoid recurring injury (esp. concussion related), Bourdon projects as a solid second pairing D man once he further develops and matures. I hope it's with the Flyers. We'll see how things play out. |

after reading the blob it seems like he has to bulk up, if so I think you might be right about that. I would guess two years tops to get him where he needs to be. |

I just remember a long rant where someone said they drafted a wood nymph etc. etc. At that time i was like watch this kid turn some heads this very summer and be a regular roster player in 2-3 years |

I like your reasoning. So would you consider moving Couts to the forward slot in top line and Schenn to the blue line? Or someone else at the point? |
