You know, at the end of the day I could give a rats ass. Its a message board.
However these "debates". Are far too predictable.
It has nothing to do with one side not backing down. It has more to do with one side continously looking to "debate" and prove they are correct. We know who I am talking about.
While I enjoy reading some of the viewpoints, it's getting rediculous and really predictable. I dont know how many posters have been banned or simply left however there is a common theme to all of this.
No one poster, should have a get out of jail free card. No matter how much they "contribute". Being an intellectual wiener is the same as being a wiener.

Speaking of young players that have/had a chance.
I really thought Kukkonen would develop into a solid d-man. |

I'm extremely disappointed as to how the summer has played out. Doesn't appear as if the team improved at all, actually looks as it has regressed. Losing a key player for an extended period of time in Meszaros was the cherry on top of the poop sundae.
That being said, there is some very talented young players on this team. I expect as currently constructed this is around a 90 point team. That can obviously change either way depending on what moves are made prior to the season, and at the trade deadline. |

Just what I have noticed but Canada has had very average goaltending from the young kids the last few years. |

More on Frandsen.
In addition to 3b and 1b he is also a 2b by trade. Could end up as a cheap substitution for Wiggy. |

Chase Headley was said to be available at the trade deadline. He would have been a perfect 3B for the Phillies. He would hit 25-30 homers playing at CBP. |

I am a very big Meszaros fan and thought he would rebound this season. Even when he comes back, it will be a long time since he has played for a longer period of time. I expect rust.
I was in the group that would have been willing to deal one of Schenn/Cooties or even both if need be to get Weber. A minority, absolutely. However it must have become clear at some point Nashville would match unless given what they want. I would have given up those two if needed. As promising as the Flyers youth, and those two players are, it should be more evident than ever how hard it is to find a #1 d-man. It is easier to find players like Schenn or Cooties. In the end its hindsight, so no worries.
I just hope the Flyers learned from that lesson. If they want a star d-man, even a guy like Bogosian, they will have to pay up, and probably overpay. Or they can run with a average group season to season and hope for the best, something I dont agree with.
This season I dont expect much. I think thats being realistic. They do have a shot, you never know what young players can do. However I, even at this time, would really be trying to upgrade that back end. With young promising stars. Who with time, will simply cost more. The Flyers should also remember that the playoffs come down to the wire. Waiting to upgrade till later, could be too late. 4 points can be the difference in playing for the cup or scratching your ass at home.
I like that they kept Voracek, he has the ability and more importantly size the top 9 needs. If its a learning year so be it, I will enjoy the ride. However everyone always talks about how young teams are. As young as the youth up front is, it is also cheap. FOR NOW. The Flyers should take advantage not wait for that magical d-man to come from the draft.
I am not Holmgren, but I would be making a trade for a young promising d-man before the season starts. |

Well I believe he's a free agent after this season, perhaps the Phillies will be suitors. Not sure why Headley would want to stay in SD, sure it's a beautiful City, but they offer him very little chance to win, and Petco Park is death for hitters. |

I wouldn't have been opposed to the Phillies parting with a talent laden package if it came with the guarantee they could lock Headley up.

Years ago Carter and Richards exploded on the scene. Really sped up the development of the team at the time.
You never know if Schenn or Cooties could do the same. Yet it took bringing in a guy like Pronger to put them near the top.
It may not be this season, but I do think they will need to bring in another star on D to get there again.
I just wish they would make a run for it this season. When Kimmo is healthy that adds to big war horses to the back end, assuming they brought in someone else.
I'd like to see Homer add OEL before the season begins. If it costs Schenn so be it. I wouldn't deal both Schenn/Cooties for a guy like that but one of them with other pieces I would.
OEL or Subban.

You certainly have to be willing to pay high for a top young defenseman. I could see giving up one of Couturier or B Schenn, but not both. You fill a hole on the back end, but create one on the forward side, if you do that. In order to trade for a young promising D man, one has to be available. And they don't become available that often. Especially in August.

The attempt at Weber shows this franchise is in desperate need for a first pairing D-man. After this season, Timonen is gone, and there really is no semblance of anyone that resembles a top pairing guy. Coburn, Meszaros, and hopefully Schenn can all be capable of second pairing roles. It's not imperative to have a stud on the backend as the Devils showed this year, but their commitment to team defense is superior to the Flyers. Winning a Cup without that monster on the backend doesn't happen often. |

Coburn has already shown he can be a top pair defenseman as a compliment to a #1. Luke Schenn has the potential to be a #2 defenseman. Meszaros probably has more raw talent and skill then both of them. None of them are #1's in the future. But all 3 could be compliments to a true #1.
