I think a good move would be to have a Coke and a smile.. lol Do you think any moves could be made tho at this juncture? The only real option that could pay dividends is Carl C. but thats just me. Didnt mean to but in on your post but thought I would respond.. yah yah

I think if Holmgren called Phoenix and offers Schenn + for OEL they would at least talk.

Teams will always listen imo. Everyone is always looking to improve.

Who knows though, I am just a fan. Off for tonight hooligans. Goodnight, and good hockey

Agree for sure.

I still see the Flyers a good destination for free agents but there are limits to that. Just for fun, what would your move be if you are Holmgren?

- flyer_nutter

Right now, I don't think there is a move to be made. I would hate to trade one of the young forwards out of desperation for a D-man. At this point I think the most sensible move is to sit tight and not overpay for someone. If the team appears to be trending upward during the season, a trade at the deadline for a NON RENTAL would be about the best we can hope for.

Mookie! What's up man? Carlo C is a pretty good player, but he's constantly injured. Can you see him coming to Philly of all places and all of a sudden being healthy? I sure can't.
- PLindbergh31

Eh, never know. Really at this point what can they do? Its not like excellent Dmen are falling out of trees. I think if they can get him for a year, then do it. If nothing can be had then see if they young guys can step up. It appears the Weber offer sheet really screwed the Flyers lol

There better be a lot of pluses to get OEL. I would label him pretty much an untouchable. You would have to blow them away with an offer.

The right rental player for the right cost would also be fine.

The question is would he sign for one year. If he would, I absolutely sign him. He can play the point on the PP, and moves the puck well. He's a solid player who can help the Flyers.

I hear you. If CC is willing to sign a one year deal for small money it's worth a shot.

Not getting Weber was tough to take, then Meszaros tearing his achilles a week later was the knockout punch.

I agree, if he signs a deal and has a great season, it could really make him a wanted player for next year. He appears to be the next Dman worth giving a look at.

I laughed when I heard the Mez news and kinda was like what the (frank) eles is new. A C.C. deal for one year could make him a wanted commodity when he hits F.A. next year. One can hope and maybe Gervias can play really solid D this year. This D has question marks but maybe, just maybe they can play real solid.

Pretty much. Just have to throw your hands in the air and move on. Just truly amazing with the injuries.

2012-13 won't be a terrible team, lot of good players on the roster, but I was hoping that this nucleus would have some key players added to it to progress to the next level. That certainly hasn't happened thus far. But it's still August, I'm sure there will be some additions.

The Meszaros news does suck. But it is what it is. Hopefully the younger guys can step in and play and carry the load. Then maybe you get a nice deadline pick up in Meszaros without having to trade any assets.

An achillies is a tricky injury. Some guys come back very fast, like Justin Williams. There's options and cap space to address the holes.

I agree, this team will still be good, just a question to see if some of the guys on D can step up and play excellent hockey. I am in wait and see mode right now and will see what happens here in the next few. For the love of god I can only hope that the NHL does not go through a lockout. For one it will kill the sport and two everything the NHL was doing great will come undone. I dont think the NHL has a clue that some of the franchises right now would loose whatever fan support they had. If they think people will come back like the fans did for the NFL, they are off their (frank)ing rocker. Hopefully they can save face and not Lockout. At that point id say that Bettman has done a piss poor job and that under his watch 3 times there has been a lockout. Pretty bad if you ask me

Thats what I am hoping for. I for one, think that Luke Schenn will show the potential that made him so highly touted. For the achilles, it really is a wait and see type of deal. I am hopeful that the D will play at a high level. I really want a season tho, not some lockout sh!t

I think a lockout is inevitable. Hopefully it won't be a long one. We'll see tomorrow when the NHLPA submits their rebuttle to the League first proposal.

The team is down 2 experienced D men (Mez, Carle) but I don't really feel like there are big holes in the defense that will be that terrible...I know not of Gervais' game, but everyone else, including MAB/Gusty,Manning and even Lilja have some game and I don't feel that uncomfortable when any of them are on the ice. The challenge may be to find pairings that spread out the experience and match up complementary skill sets.

Yep. Nailed it Sir. The thing that is going to be very tricky is when, not if there are additional injuries to the defense what happens? Timonen and Grossmann were being held together with spit and glue last year. At some point this season you will see three of Manning, Gervais, Gustafsson, and MAB in the lineup at the same time. Who knows perhaps for an extended period of time. That could be a very frightening proposition. As currently constructed that scenario is an injury away from happening.

Or the opposite. The Defense could remain relatively healthy.

Playing with a guy like Timonen could really help Schenn. He could learn a ton from Kimmo, and Kimmo can free him up to be a big hitter and play physical

Or both, which is the normality: both the offense and defense will be decimated by injury
