Playing with a guy like Timonen could really help Schenn. He could learn a ton from Kimmo, and Kimmo can free him up to be a big hitter and play physical - Jsaquella
I'm expecting big things from Schenn this year on defense. |

I really like that pairing. And then Coburn and Grossmann are solid. I just won't like putting two kids together on the 3rd pair. But Gervais is also in the mix. One of the biggest issues is going to be on the PP. As per Bill's blog, we'll see if Coburn can step up there. They will really miss Carle and Mezaros there, as well as in 5 on 5 play.

I think we'll see mixing and matching, too, unless there's an addition.
I could see Coburn and Timonen getting the odd shift with Gervais, Bourdon and Gustafsson, or depending upon who dresses maybe see something like Timone-Schenn, Coburn-Gustafsson & Grossmann-Gervais.
If they add Colaiacovo, maybe the pairs you mentioned and a third pair of CC & one of the other 3(Gus, Gervais or MAB) isn;t bad at all for a top six. |

the third pair two kids situation is the glaring problem

Any chance they go with seven defenseman? |

Two year deal max. Worth the risk, IMO. |

I think they could carry 8 defensemen, but I don;t see them dressing 7 for games. Of course, Laviolette did that in Carolina, so it's not impossible. |

Definitely. I have no idea what the pairing will be. And I think there will be a lot of combinations seen.

I agree that is not an ideal situation. For the players or the team. We'll see what moves the Flyers make. If any.

yup, offer him two years and a chance to prove he can play enough to be worth another contract. |

Years ago Carter and Richards exploded on the scene. Really sped up the development of the team at the time.
You never know if Schenn or Cooties could do the same. Yet it took bringing in a guy like Pronger to put them near the top.
It may not be this season, but I do think they will need to bring in another star on D to get there again.
I just wish they would make a run for it this season. When Kimmo is healthy that adds to big war horses to the back end, assuming they brought in someone else.
I'd like to see Homer add OEL before the season begins. If it costs Schenn so be it. I wouldn't deal both Schenn/Cooties for a guy like that but one of them with other pieces I would.
OEL or Subban. - flyer_nutter
When richards and carter lead the team they were actually pretty good. 07-08 they weren't quite ready, 08-09 if you remember that first round series pitt barely beat us. Cup finals the next season, blown up after that. I like the team we have now, but how long before people start crying about giroux, couts, and schenn being a core that can't win the big one? |

I'd throw a 2 yr/4.5 mil deal at him. No problems here |

I would have no problem with that even with his injury history. |

It's possible. If the 12th forward is a guy who is going to play a handful of minutes that's basically useless. |

I started typing before I fully understood, so it kind of flowed in there
I'd guess it's possible. I'm not against it if the coach sees it as giving the team the best chance to win the game. |

I don't know if it would benefit or hurt the team more by dressing 7 defenseman. |

Montreal has reportedly re-signed Max Pacioretty to a six year extension, probably means that Subban will be signed soon. |

If there's a team that draws a ton of penalties, like the Pens of Devils, I'd lean towards dressing Gus and Bourdon ahead of a guy like Rinaldo. At the very least they aren't as likely to put the team down a man, and they can be used to better spell the top four, who will likely be seeing more PK time. |
