How is it that defenseman are dropping like flies before camp even starts. What happens when Grossmann who is playing on two torn acl's, and MAB who had multiple concussions gets injured as well?
Expecting these guys to remain healthy is fool's gold. - PLindbergh31
Like I said previously. The Season is over. Let's start discussing off season moves for the 13/14 Season. This Season is obviously a wash.
Would you really give up a young assets and/or early picks for a band-aid? - NickTheKid87
Assets are used to satisfy needs. A move for Bouwmeester is not a band-aid. Hate to be pessimistic but the quality and depth aren't there. Homer can keep his assets and cap space as golfing companions this May or he can do something bold. Of course, it's easy for me to blather, it ain't my job on the line.
As much as I'd love to win a Cup this year, the fact of the matter is that the Flyers are NOT a win now team. They have youth on their side and can afford to be patient. This is why I am totally opposed to trading young players and early round draft picks for guys who are just band-aids for this year's defensive corps. J-Bo is not the player he was in Florida. Why trade young NHL players and/or draft picks/prospects for a guy who will only be here for a couple of years with a HUGE cap hit? That's counter productive IMO.

If we had to give up a top 6 forward+ for J-Bo than we'd be overpaying. If we could get him for a late pick or a C level prospect then I'd be much more keen to pull the trigger. But if you're going to use good assets, than get a better player.
I thought Bill mentioned he had surgeries for two torn acl's not so long ago. I could be mistaken. Point being Grossmann has bad knees, MAB has a concussion history, and Timonen is coming off multiple surgeries and is 37 yrs old.
Is it realistic to expect these guys to stay healthy? IMO, it's not. - PLindbergh31
Grossmann's tears were to the MCL -- not nearly as serious as ACL, but now he's had MCL tears in both knees. He opted for rehab instead of surgery this summer.

Thanks Bill. I stand corrected. My basic point was Grossmann is playing on two bad knees.
Anyone here need to be reminded of what greatness is, should watch his overtime goal in Game 2 of the 1974 Final. He simply did not allow his team to go down 2 games to none. It was awesome to watch and it was then when we realized that this team was going to win the Cup.
