well why would the Sabres waste picks / what not on a player that plays exactly like the 14th overall pick by the sabres ??? Girgensons game is basically what your talking about! and hes a year or less away from being NHL ready.

This I agree with 110% a 60/40 split would seem fine for me.

In simple math terms. Say revenue for 1 year is 100 Mil. Players take 40% of that which is 40 Million. divide that out between 750 players and thats a 53,000 bonus per player basically, on top of their salary.

I know it's more complicated then that though.

Teams are supposed to start training camp in a month and the player's association has yet to make their proposal. What is their vision/alternate plan? Why wait until the middle of August?

Sure makes you roll your eyes with these owners. How stupid are they about getting into these bidding wars with UFA's & the Weber debacle. Surely Bettman saw the damage this potentially had to the Owner image & their negotiation leverages. I suggest they look at a combo Cap/Luxury tax. The parity in the NHL is so good it's frustrating owners who want to spend to win. So let these guys spend, just tighten the rules so everyone can co exist happily.
Split the Revenues equally 50/50, enough is enough, the $$$ are outrageous.
Put the cap at some agreeable number, for example 60 mill. Put the floor at 40 mill.
Then let teams give players signing bonuses that do not count against the cap but go into the luxury tax category & hammer those teams hard with a high tax. The luxury tax then gets split between the teams that operate at 85% or less of the cap. What ever portion a team that is eligible to receive a % of the luxury tax will be required to use 50% of that toward their player salaries & their floor will be increased the next year accordingly.
Change the rule for RFA's in that a team cannot offer a bonus on an offer sheet to a restricted free agent, so we avoid this Weber fiasco. You can only bonus UFA's & players that a team has the rights for & are resigning or extending their contract.

Surely there are some creative ways to help all these greedy parties to roll like little piggies in all their money without stopping hockey & punishing the fans.

Good post...
I agree, set hard floor & ceiling #s and implement a luxury tax
It's getting out of control...
It's also 100% fault of the owners

Everyone is frustrated with this site because nothing is going on to talk about... Everything is non sense every day.. so people get frustrated easier not just people that have been on the site longer.
- JVince11

Exactly !

I dont even look at how long someone has "been on this site" when I am replying a post . What does that have to do with anything anyway?

Does it make you a better person or poster because you have had more idle time in your life to spend on an internet hockey board?

I dont know why most of you "Sr's" feel the need to keep posting this drama but if you dont want to be here as much like you to say, simply dont be. Why all the announcements of it ?

The last little while has been slow in the NHL and for our Sabres so there has been a lot of frustration for everyone ,not just "Sr's" .

You have no idea where O'reilly and the Avs are in contract negotiations. They could be very close to a new deal.

Bottom line is, he has nothing to worry about until an offer sheet is signed. The season isn't expected to start on time, and even if it does, he has plenty of time to get O'reilly signed. It could be a 1 year deal if they aren't ready to keep him long term for big coin.

Not to mention signing a vet like Jiggy, who's in the twilight of his career and is very happy with the Avs by all account, to a 1 year extension doesn't really take much time or effort. I can't imagine Sherman allocated that much precious time away from O'reilly to Jiggy.

Hopefully I just saved you some brain cells next time you find yourself in a similar conundrum and wanna bash your brain against various, inanimate objects.

I like the Av's resigning of a vet goaltender like Giguere. Solid move on their part.

Little hard on Grigorenko I would say. His passing has been superb but is not a good fit with Yakupov. Until Yakupov stops being a one man team Grigs is not going to get established offensively. Several times if Yakupov had returned a pass to Grigs he would have had a good scoring chance. One time in particular Yak shot from a bad angle and Grig was cruising into the slot wide open. I like what I see in Grigorenko and not fair to right him off like you have. Put him with Pominville and Vanek and he will shine because he sees the ice very well.

Grigorenko is oozing with talent, let's not be so hard on him. Look at all the Canadian top scorers that have been held off the scoring sheet as well. Yakupov is one guy that until he starts passing the puck nobody will want to play with him. I like Grigorenko very much and predict Yakupov will not be too popular with his Oiler teammates if he continues to be a one man team. The coach will set him straight and then the war begins. He thinks he is Bure but is not.

I dont have a problem with that lineup in training camp just to see what the kid has . He thinks hes ready so give him a shot with the big boys and see.Hogie hasnt impressed me and altho I like Ennis not sure hes a number one center just yet.

Let's look at this summer closer and where the Sabres as an organization. Also the mind set if this site?

- I strongly feel they will trade Ennis (he would be signed by now).

- They have been trying to get that #1 center
(Stastny) all summer, also looks like they are indeed looking at Edmonton's center's.

- Ennis is very overrated on this site. If Ennis gets u Bobby "Freakin" Ryan, u do it yesterday!

- Ryan 50/50 coming to Sabres.

- Sekera has been traded a 100 times!

- Pysyk or McNabb, who would you trade? Who brings more to the table for the future of the organization?

- the Sr's of this site, have become very frustrated with the non-sense going on and have stayed away let myself. (I respect many of you)

This!
We are in for a long lockout, IMO.
I was planning to go catch the Sabres in Nassau against the Islanders on Oct-20, or against the Devils on Oct-26.
It's all a pipe dream now!

Pierce,

Statsny would be my choice, it's that center Vanek has desperately been seeking!

Gagner has potential I feel that has been un-tapped? So to answer your question, I guess it would depend on the asking price of both centerman?

What would Statsny cost?

What would Gagner cost?

Vaneks most productive year was when Roy was his center. Just sayin.

The only reason I'm not too worried about him through this series is that he's probably still dealing with some of the effects from the mono he had. From what I've heard, when you have that, it takes a really long time to get back to feeling normal. I would think for an athlete, it would cause issues for just as long, if not more since it effects your stamina and everything.

He has issues with his stamina to begin with, that can't be helping his cause at all either.

- HonkFortheGoose

If that is the case then he is most likely going back to the Q this coming season.. but he may also be going there because it is the only place where hockey will be played for him

Correct! If your posting on here over a dozen times a day in the dead of summer when nothing has happened in a month ….you may need to check life's priorities.

It looks that way, but 2 things keep me from worrying too much: 1. As bad as it looks, the divide is nowhere near what it was in 2004. This is all posturing and starting at an extreme to meet in the middle. 2. If you remember the NFL's lockout last year (and I know we're talking 2 different sports at 2 completely different revenue levels), it looked bleak, and then magically, they got a deal done in about a week. There may be some time missed, but it's not going to be a repeat of 2004-2005. I also am not going to be surprised if any time was missed at all, other than some preseason.

Think you can expand the list and the goalies went on to do much better things. Like Roli and Conklin. Just never seem to use a backup properly. Not looking up the stats seemed that the days with Puppa/Malarchuk/Fuhr they were splitting starts pretty regularly.
