Yup they don't realize that someone somewhere is footing the bill.

That is crazy and I hear some co workers that have a few kids in day care and after care talk about the cost and I can't see how it is worth it for them both to work.

It's a (really) amateur league, and there's no real rule about that. She just was there at the evaluation practice and made the team "de facto". I mean, I played with girls when I was young that were better than her. Let's just say it's an "addition by substration"
