@tpanotchCSN: Source tells http://CSNPhilly.com that Simmonds deal has an AAV of $3.84 million

Even better!

- FLYERSROCK!

Interesting, I guess his agent wanted to get a long term deal in before any new CBA. This is a risk for PHI for sure since last season was a HUGE jump and he didn't show up much in the playoffs. That said, I like the deal overall. I think it will payoff over time.

Now just add another D man.

I wonder if english league soccer could take the place of hockey for me if they strike and it pisses me off enough....?

And no, this does not (frank) the Flyers over cap wise. Hartnell will want 5M, they'll give him that, Kimmo's cap hit will go down considerable, prob down to around 4.5M, and then Shelley, Walker, Lilja are all gone.

So were good cap wise.

Timonen's cap hit will go to $0. He's said quite a few times that he intends to retire when his deal is up

Simmonds 6 yr extension. That's a long deal.

I like the proactive approach, and if Simmonds stays at 25-30 goals, with the grit he brings, it's a great deal. even if he manages to be a consistent 20-25 goal scorer it's not a bad deal.

The downside is, it's a big reward for a player that's had one really good year.

Walker other then in the off season doesn't affect the Cap much. Hartnell will want and get alot more then 5M.

At least with a lockout the Phantoms may be competitive this year.

Heck if Schenn and Couturier are down there, I'll get myself to a game in Wilkes-Barre when they're in town.

Would love to see Homer surprise everyone and sign Doan... then ship out Read+ for Bouwmeester. Once I have my morning coffee today I'm sure I'll realize I'm just dreaming

haha not knocking you, just pointing out that you reallllly need your morning coffee

Read and a pick (900k in cap space) for Doan (signed, rumored at 7+ a year for 4 years) and JBo (6.7 mil)

So basically adding 14 mill in salaries

Yeah, but if puts up north of 30 goals again, that is what the market will bear. He will be a popular target for a lot of teams. A power forward who produces consistently, is good in the room, and will be a fan favorite wherever he goes.

My guess is that the flyers lock him up before he gets to UFA.

Yea I get it... it just sounds insane. Imagine if i told you two years ago that Hartnell would be looking at north of 6 mill...

I like Hartnell but giving a new contract to a power forward who is more likely to decline is scary to me. Having to replace him could be hard to do but its Homer thats going to have to make that decision.

I do like that he is locking up the young guys on this team.

Harts is going on his 12th season in the NHL (!), so it's not easy to drop big money on a long term. But you really can't afford to lose him either. Hopefully, there's a nice middle ground in either AAV or length of the deal.

Possibly true, but in my mind there is NO WAY you let Hartnell walk at 31 (his age when the contract is up).
