yeah, like people are saying, its about the contrast between the sixers era under snider and now.
sad to say though, the flyers went from a whisker of being the team most likely to win it all to one that is less relevant than the 76ers. - isaiah520
from what i can gather in this short conversation is he sat back and let the people running the team run it. Isn't that what people female dog at him for not doing with the flyers? damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess. |

As much as I dislike Shelley for his on-ice play, I think it would be more beneficial for the Flyers to keep him as the 13th forward solely for his locker room presence. With Jagr gone, the team needs more veteran presence and Shelley can fill that role as we all know. - NickTheKid87
at some point tho, the training wheels have to come off for those that have been around for the past 4 or 5years. |

Who else are we over-paying? J-Bo, though overpaid, helps us during a season where we've lost Carle and will be missing Meszy for a good portion of the year. The salary is there.
The extra year on J-Bo's contract won't hut as much because Timonen will either be retired or come back at a much cheaper clip than he's currently signed at.
The J-Bo move, to me, is a no-brainer as long as we don't have to give up too much talent to get him. - steelydan
The extra year can potentially hurt you. It could prevent the team from making a move in the future for a true top defenseman worth his Cap hit.

I agree but the team is still very young and I think they are still at a point were they'd benefit from another strong locker room guy. But if push comes to shove then by all means waive Shelley. |

Well you can't give him credit for reigning over a trip to the finals AND say he sat back and let the management run the team can you... oh, you just did.

I did tag credit to him for that finals appearance yes, but evidently he was not involved of the running of the sixers. I don't know which one is true but it's starting to look like what he gets criticized for not doing with the Flyers he did with the sixers and still gets criticized, oh well. Just didn't think it was fair that someone in the media felt a shot at the best owner in town was warranted because the Sixers made a trade and actually got value for a change. |

I see no reason why there shouldn't be a veteran locker room presence every season. I don't see it as training wheels at all. |

I think there is a good chance that the Flyers choose to honor Shelley's contract and the 3rd year. |

It's easier to run a union when the players care what's in the CBA as much as they care about missing a pay check. They blew up their own union during the lock out then did such a great job of recognizing what had gone wrong that they blew it up two more times within a year.
They had no chance of getting anything done in the last CBA. It was disheartening to see how easily they were manipulated both internally and by the League. |

how many do you need tho? there's briere, timonen etc. at some point guys like Giroux, Hartnell and Coburn have to step into that role as well, they've been around for some long playoff runs and suffered through important teammates going down, all the stuff that adds to the XP column. |

I really don't have a problem with him on the team. I like to make some jokes from time to time but you need guys like him for your 4th line. |
