you were all about talbot whenever this came up in the past - Crimsoninja
Still am, he would be a great choice. But it really doesn't matter to me. All the candidates mentioned would be good choices. |

My choice is one of Timonen, Briere, Talbot, Giroux, Hartnell, or who ever. Doesn't matter to me. I think the whole Captain factor is overrated anyway. - MJL

I wish the Flyers would do an equivalent to what the Oilers do with their "Oil Change" series. |

That would be great. Would also like to see CSN do something similar to NHL36 that the NHL network does. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: The Captaincy Question - bmeltzer
Timonen should get it, expiring contract be damned. He's the Lidstrom on this team, the rock you can tie the ship to.
Briere's got the personality for it, but the recent offensive inconsistencies, shoddy defensive play and bad penalties make it hard for him to be as steady of a leader on the ice.
Giroux has plenty of time to assume the mantle... the "shift" has sent hearts aflutter, but I say let the kid keep establishing his game on the ice without having to carry the weight of the franchise off it as well.
Hartnell's like Briere... the discipline just isn't there sometimes and I while he's even-keeled, he's got an immature/showman streak to him that IMO isn't becoming of a captain.
Talbot is an interesting dark horse candidate -- great ambassador to the fans, steady on the ice, been there done that, his teammates clearly adore him. He may be more 'A' material though. |

I don't care too much about the Captaincy or where it goes. But I do fully agree with Kimmo = Lidstrom for the Flyers. I predict Timmonen will re-sign barring something unfortunate. I can't name any other player that has been a steadier leader & Presence than Kimmo. I hope he get's paired with Schenn for the simply reason of having a bit of what he does rub off on Luke. If his Pairing with Schenn does what his pairing with Coburn did for Brayden we will be okay on D. |

Schenn seemed to complement Kaberle well -- Timonen/Schenn looks just as good on paper. |

Simmonds cap hit is $3.975 with a modified NTC in the UFA years. Which is 17/18 and 18/19. |

Agreed. I think that's our #1 pair. Not that I want to overwork Kimmo but having Schenn throwing the hits around could really help protect Timonen by having the opposition looking over their shoulder's more. |

So here is a question. If the Lockout should happen and we end up losing a full or partial year of hockey. Does supporting/following the Phantoms or another AHL team mean supporting the Owners and NHL? Is there some kind of Money changing place or are they owned by separate entities? |

The Phantoms are no longer owned by the Flyers, so if you do support them, you're supporting the Brooks Sports Management group |

The league-wide trend toward locking up the better D-men into long-term extensions looks like it will continue. Canucks to begin talks with Edler on an extension. With Enström having already extended with Winnipeg, there will be no All-Star caliber D on the UFA market next summer, assuming something gets done between Edler and Canucks (and I think it will, ahead of CBA expiration).
http://www.vancouversun.c.../story.html#ixzz23qCTY4eO)
All of better (potential; but they'll probably be extended, too) FA defensemen next summer are RFAs: Alex Pietrangelo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Zach Bogosian being at the head of the line, in that order.
In other words, for those of you figuring on the Flyers using Kimmo Timonen's expiring contract as a leg up on a big UFA defenseman signing next year, forget it. It may very well be that Timonen himself ends up being the best UFA defenseman available.
