The league-wide trend toward locking up the better D-men into long-term extensions looks like it will continue. Canucks to begin talks with Edler on an extension. With Enström having already extended with Winnipeg, there will be no All-Star caliber D on the UFA market next summer, assuming something gets done between Edler and Canucks (and I think it will, ahead of CBA expiration).

All of better (potential; but they'll probably be extended, too) FA defensemen next summer are RFAs: Alex Pietrangelo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Zach Bogosian being at the head of the line, in that order.
In other words, for those of you figuring on the Flyers using Kimmo Timonen's expiring contract as a leg up on a big UFA defenseman signing next year, forget it. It may very well be that Timonen himself ends up being the best UFA defenseman available. - bmeltzer
With the new CBA I expect the same sort of strategy league-wide from now on. All-Star calibre defenseman are now the rare and highly sought after LHP/SP of baseball, except the salary cap doesn't exist in MLB. |

They'll have to over pay to get one or perhaps (one can dream) they'll finally learn to just draft & develop their own.

Best uni in all of sports?
According to the "Uniform Monitor", the Flyers top off the list. At least he's not biased.
1. Flyers: In the name of full disclosure, I am not a Flyers fan -- matter of fact, they're my least favorite team in sports -- but dang if those orange and black getups don't sing like Kate Smith in the Spectrum before a playoff game. They're paradoxically straight out of the 1970s and timeless all at once. Kudos, you dirty creeps. Might this be the only thing you win for another century. |

Here, too. One of my all time favorite Flyers. I just wish he could have hoisted the Cup in Philly.

Any guess were the salary cap comes in after the new cba?
A lot of current contracts were signed when the cap was much lower so teams have much moe money to throw around right now. As the new more expensive contracts grow on rosters it won't be as easy to resign ever top tier player including Dmen. |

when I hear people bring up that season from Primeau it cracks me up because Brind'amour had plenty of those. I was kind of annoyed when we did our fav top 10 flyers and there was way too many Primeau's and hardly any Brind'amours, Roddy was twice the player Keith was. |

Yea I worked for an electrician while Brindy was with the Flyers, he and his wife used to just call him "Ugly". They meant it in a good way of course.

i hear you, Joe
i think what made that Primeau playoff run so memorable was that it came so far out of nowhere. personally i like him and it was cool to see him excell after being ripped so much during his time here. Not saying the criticism wasnt deserved, but you gotta admit it was fun to watch him tear it up that postseason |

It was a good run that 04 year but couldn't we have just traded big E for him? I guess it's just one of those things, can't get over the sting of that trade after all these years. Tocchet and Brindy are my top two favs. I don't really hold it against the organization for trading Tocchet when they did, because iirc he got pissed about getting booed, hence why I try to urge people to not be so boo happy all the time. I know kind of futile but so is resistance so they say and it never stops me |

As the Cap is reduced, so will the players salaries. And if the League has it's way, there will be term limits, and signing bonuses will all but be eliminated.

Q:They would do an across the board % cut to every players AAV? That's easy, but makes no sense. If a player had an $8 million dollar AAV under the $66 million dollar cap from the last CBA and the cap is reduced to $66 million why should their salary be reduced? Tougher to implement, but players signed after the CBA expired should have their salaries reduced a %. I think this could be a very big sticking point.
Love term limits and elimination of signing bonuses unless they're capped. |

It's what they did last time, although the very low end weren't affected. |
