Why would you name a division of all European teams "Lemieux"? That's atrocious, and a slap in the face to the European faction of your new NHL. Shouldn't a European division be named for a prominent European hockey player?
Yes. Yes, it should.
If we're all completely going off our meds purposefully then, how about the Kurri division?
Borje Salming Division - deadlockt

What this league needs us contraction, not expansion. I agree with everybody else, what are you smoking?? There are too many teams that operate in the red as it is. Talent is too watered down and the product on the ice, compared to post 90s expansion, just sucks. |

I like the talent in the league. Teams are forced to play their younger kids sooner and its fun watching them. 32 teams would be good if they move a few of the teams from places they shouldn't be. but only a few teams should move. isles should stay if the get an arena or go to brooklyn, dallas showed with success they can have a good base, ditto carolina and tampa. columbus deserves a chance to actually have a smattering of success before moving them. |

I don't think that is a good thing. Sure some guys are ready, but putting kids in sure as hell hasn't worked out for CBJ. |

its hit and miss... it sure has hell has worked out for edm. another aspect of a 32 team league would have to be a revised chl contract allowing for young stars to either be called up from junior or placed in the AHL. |

Kinda not really. Sure with Hall and RNH, but Eberle went back after being drafted and worked on his game. Gagner who knows, but he isn't exactly a poster boy for rushing guys in early. Then we have Peckham, Smid, Cogliano, Nilsson, Pouilot, Chorney, Brule, Deslauries, Dubnyk, PRV, Lander who could've all used more time developing. |

but those kids have been fun to watch. plus, it would be more league-wide... with more young kids on each team. |

Lately it's been fun it wasn't all the other years when the kids had no idea what NHL hockey was and looked lost all the time. |

How about shrinking the league down to 24 healthy franchises, put in a hard cap and get rid of Revenue Sharing. To hell with this idea of more teams. Less teams, better competition. |

This makes no sense Clouts. We have enough teams in the league already that suck, can't make any money, and are leeching off of other teams in the league. I would be more in favour of reducing the league to 28 or even 26 teams. If we could remove 4 terrible market teams from the league (let's say Columbus, Florida, Phoenix, and the Islanders) the league would be a lot more exciting. Also, this revenue sharing bullpoop would matter a lot less. - SteveTambellini
Does Edmonton get a cut of the revenue sharing? |

Contraction isn't necessary what so ever. Relocating the Coyotes alone would make the league financially feasible enough to make a version of the current CBA work just fine. |

Sure, move them to CDN thus increasing revenues thus increasing the rising cap floor. Plus you are probably losing you billion dollar tv deal and whatever the City of Glendale has against you.
Sounds good to me. |

1. Cap floor wouldn't rise at all
2. What TV deal.....
3. That money would be paid back 10x in short order with the money they'd then be generating
NHL would offset these "loses" they speak of by more then 30% if Yotes are moved. |

Why wouldn't the cap floor rise?
What TV teal? NBC one. |

Why would they lose their deal with NBC because they move the Coyotes?
Why would the cap floor rise? And so what if it did. Most teams are spending well over it now anyway. |

I would say the Islanders moving is a possibility. When we get our new arena they will have by far the oldest facility in the league, and from the sounds of it, the place is an absolute dump. That franchise is a money suck and the city won't do anything to help them with a new arena which basically means they don't give a poop if they stay or go. True hockey fans in NY still have the Rangers and the Sabres. - SteveTambellini
Detroit has the oldest(Joe Louis) arena in the league. And I love how every blooger and Canadian media writer exaggerates the conditions of the Coliseum, like they've been there recently and truly know. Trust me, MSG isn't nicknamed the World's Smelliest Arena for no good reason. And if you think a building sitting on a 30-40 acre parking lot on Long Island has a (worse) problem with rats/mice/whatever than an arena built on top of a train & subway hub in the middle of Manhattan, then you need to put down the bottle of glue you're sniffing and come back to reality.
Secondly, 0% chance the Islanders move. EVER. Otherwise it will be at least another 54 years before the Stanley cup is awarded to a team from NY. Long Island is a bigger hockey market for youth players and is always ranked in the Top 5 in the USA for real estate value. Attendance is down because team has sucked since Don Maloney & Mike Milbury had their shots as GM's and ruined the team. Most Ranger fans live on LI, Westchester or are transplants to NJ. They do not actually reside in the 5 boroughs. Same goes with the Ranger players.
That being said, the topic of this blog can be summed up in 3 words.
Worst. Idea. Ever. |

Can somone tell me how they will make the draft order for the next draft if there is a lockout? Do they just pull random teams out of a hat? I would die if the Canucks made the top 5... |

32 teams? No fricken way. Get it down to 24 teams!!!! Eliminate:
-Columbus
-Nashville
-Phoenix
-Florida
-3 teams in California is one too many , so either San Jose or Anahiem goes bye bye.
-Sorry to all Canadian fans but unfortunatley one Canadian team must be sacrificed so Winnipeg must go.
Now change the playoff format back to original exciting 80's. the 1st place team place the 16th place team & so on.
THIS WOULD BE AN EXCITING NHL!!!!!
