I wonder if they accounted for the Devil's bankruptcy in the game. I bet they have the Nordiques as second Jerseys for them - bobert836
They also aren't allowed to sign any free agents that aren't enforcers and once their players become eligible for free agency, they leave. |

Dont feel bad, Chris Kreider is a 68 overall... Stralman a 73. I feel those to be quite inappropriate too. |

The stats are all screwy.
Ryan Miller is the best goalie in the league? Doughty would be the 3rd best D-man in Vancouver? Kopitar and Brown would both be on the 3rd line there?.. In fact they have Gagne rated higher than Brown, and Richards rated higher than Kopitar. Kopitar isn't even on the top line anymore.
I don't like the ratings at all. They always overpower Vancouver, but I guess you gotta expect that given that they're based out of there... They screwed LA pretty good though, I guess rolling through the playoffs 16-4, and having two forwards tie for first in goals, assists, points, and +/- (Kopitar and Brown) isn't enough to get them to even an 89, let alone a 90. If Hamhuis and Edler are both 88, then Doughty should be a 93.
After all they had done, the ratings have really disappointed me. |

Isn't it pretty typical for rookies to have poop ratings though? |

Depends on the rookie. Most high picks get decent ratings without having played a game in the NHL. Kreider didn't look out of place at all in the time he got in the playoffs. I would have expected at least a 70 at the very least considering he might be their second line center this/next year |

I dont understand why people get so butt hurt by EA ratings... its just a game. These characters are as good as your skills are in the game. Just because Elias is an 82 doesnt mean hes gonna suck in the game unless you dont know how to play and you suck.

Accuracy is nice. Also, FIFA is the only game I semi-play. And no matter how hard my friends try, if they are australia and I'm brazil, they won't win. |

77 A potential.
If you did GM mode, he was a 73 when he was drafted |

its all a popularity contest anyways...and the guys who worked on nhl13 are just like 85% of the rest of nhl fans...ignore the devils and consider them jokes and they're just a fluke team...doesnt matter if we put out a run like the kings did this year...we will always be considered a fluke |

I would say it's more "let's make Vancouver the best team in the game because it's made there" and then just throw random numbers around for everyone else |

You've got to keep in mind that the overall rating has always favoured guys who do everything... so while Erik Karlsson is an 86 and is likely close to 100 in most offensive stats, his hitting isn't likely terribly high nor does he fight... so guys like Elias and Karlsson can be rated lower than guys with less high end skill but who are physical like Clarke MacArthur (83) or Niklas Kronwall (88). It's an imperfect system, but I'm sure Karlsson is going to play a lot better than Kronwall. |

Please tell me that you didn't seriously just say that MacArthur was a better overall player then Elias. |

If we're arguing about how good Elias is then it just cements that people still don't know that he's good.
Also, lol @ Rangers fans who think Dubinsky is still more than a plug. He should be rated like Ryan Carter or Steve Bernier. - Pomegrant
to be fair he was pretty much a consistent 50 point player until this past season. aren't players allowed to have an off year? |

More like consistent 40 point player, and no they aren't allowed to have off years. After last year I wouldn't trade Cam Janssen for Ovechkin, what a scrub |

How is Crosby 95 and Malkin just 91? Malkin is better. And if he isn't, he's not that far off. These rankings suck for every team. I wonder what Kessel is ranked. - Allstarzz
Kessel is listed at 86. Dynamic offense and great skating, but every other facet of his game is lacking. |

If you play the game, then physical stats matter but sense doesn't. Means I can play guys with natural talent and use my own sense to turn them into Mario Lemieux.
I don't take much stock into these statistics because if you look at their point simulations based on them, they'll be extremely dodgy.
Elias was the league's best second liner last year and fits the role beautifully because he capitalizes on the attention that teams had to put on Kovalchuk. But some players who are really good still don't do that well on the second line because the game has no actual psychology (and tries to use stats like "intensity" and "offensive awareness" to try to supplement it). Elias is an extreme team player and will play any role assigned him with nothing taken away from his game.
Put Malkin on the second line behind Crosby, does he get 10-20% more points because the focus is all on Crosby? No... for some reasons, he worsens 10-20% because of a mystic psychology that he plays better against better players in a more responsible role. Malkin is the league's 2nd or 3rd best player and should get 125-135 pts playing on the second line, but the reality is he won those hart trophies while Crosby was injured as the team's "all star".
Tallinder 83 rating? That's laughable. I hope other GMs believe it because NJ can trade him for a pretty damn good top 6. What with all the 16 points in 82 games and the -6 rating or was it the torrid 12-13 assists he was pacing towards before the embolism (and the -22 rating)? What with NJ's record without him: 27-12-4. He did play all right in the LA series.
The defense was otherwise actually pretty accurate in terms of talent as nobody on the Devils' blue line has much of a slap shot but can play a sound d game. If Larsson develops his, combined with his hockey sense... man he'll be good.
These games will never get the psychology of these players correctly.
My ratings aren't much better, though this thread is giving me more ideas about how to adjust certain coefficients.

Advanced statistics, which are a lot more accurate than your Excel spreadsheets, show Tallinder is a lot more valuable than you think. |
