Wow those are brutal. How can Elias be only 82? They definitely messed up a lot of those. |

Todd Cordell: A Look at the New Jersey Devils Ratings in NHL 13 - Todd.Cordell
My guess is that they totally re-altered the rankings. Usually, bottom six guys were anywhere between 75-80. Looks like they are separating the top guys from the bottom guys tremendously. There's always going to be questionable decisions in NHL13, it's pretty much expected by now. |

If you had to go by last years standards, the rankings should be:
Kovalchuk (90)-Zajac (85)- Zubrus (82)
Elias (87)- Henrique (83)- Clarkson (81)
Carter (79)- Josefson (77)- Butler (80)
Janssen/Barch (77)- Gionta (77)-Bernier (79)
That would be a more realistic one. But like I said, it seems they re-altered the rankings. |

A lot of the rankings I don't agree with. Datsyuk is a sick player but he is tied for being the highest rated with Crosby at 95. Malkin is 91, but was clearly the best player in the league last season. Erik Karlsson is only 86 but he won the Norris. Kronwall is 88...Definitely some of the ratings seem questionable. |

JT91 is 85..
A player who finished just under a ppg, with pretty much little help, who created 2 career AHL career's to NHL (moulson and PA were nobody's before jt), had the 2nd highest percentage of PTs per team goals scores in the league (just behind stamkos) and who's defense could never clear the puck, leading the JT getting less offensive ice time..
I think JT has one of the best visions of hockey in today's game, a smudge below Crosby
And he's an 85...

A. Its a video game, you cant expect it to be "right".
B. More emphasis is put on certain statistics than others. Which is why Dubinsky is ranked better overall than Elias. Things like speed, strength, agility, defensive awareness, etc... play a big role. The thing is, they dont change statistics like shooting accuracy/shot power and passing for players like that. So although Dubi sucked, they still probably left him with 80 in each category.
C. As far as lines go... youre just looking at the way the lines are set up by the best overalls. They take the best 1 way players on the team and stick them together on a line.
In video games, youth and potential take precedent over the older guys with the exception of the elite stars, and that averages into the overalls of the teams. |

Refer to point B. of my rant.
Thing is, with JT, with all his skills, hes not the fastest skater in the world... and those skating attributes are big factors. |

Elias probably is better at all those things you listed except strength than Dubinsky. When it comes down to it, Elias should be a lot better than an 82 with last season's numbers. |

the fact that Elias is in his late 30's factors into his attributes, they try to accomodate for his "aging" and knock off 1-2 attributes to certain stats. However, I can guarantee you that Elias is not a better skater than Dubi, Dubi is faster, stronger, etc... defensively? Dubi is known as a defensive player, so he automatically gets the added 1 or 2 attributes.
As far as shooting and accuracy and all that, I totally agree Elias is better, but again because of age they like to accommodate regression. |

Every year there are questions regarding the ratings of the players in NHL. Apparently this years version of NHL has even more categories for ratings which will help some players and hurt others. The system they come up will never be perfect. You can't please everybody. Every team has a player that should be rated higher and/or lower. Not the biggest deal in the world. The game will still be fun to play and you will use the players you want to use regardless of ratings.
But if you really need to adjust ratings you can in "edit player" mode and adjust the ratings to you liking. Just don't be a twat and make all your favourite players a 99 overall. |

JT defense is slightly above average now, his skating isn't an issue anymore, and he has a lot of leg strength now(shown in his power move that he does practically once a game)
Unless JT has like a top 4 offensive rating in the game, he was snubbed |

Thing is, you gotta look at the specific individual attributes side by side with someone like Dubi, and youll find out really quick which attributes are valued more than others. |

I think you need to read Travis Yosts novel, I mean, blog, about advanced statistics
EA doesn't simply make these ratings up. They enter all the metrics into a computer which then creates a rating based on advanced stats and the past seasons performance.
I for one think advanced stats are garbage and if you disagree with the NHL13 ratings, you should probably start advocating the ignorance of them as I have been doing! |

but do you guys understand how the ranking systems work?..... this isnt NHL 96 its not who had how many points last year, simply because Datsyuk doesnt put up Crosby or Malkin numbers do you really believe that makes them better players in the different aspects of being an NHLer? neither of them for example is as good as Datsyuk on D you can already be sure of that, Datsyuk is good in every single aspect of the game he can even hit and he shows it in the NHL, but he doesnt need to since his stick work is ridiculous......he's better on draws then malkin and altho Crosby has gotten better he's still not there, Datsyuk has a more accurate shot and he's got better hands too (in this case any one of their hands is amazing tho)
but the point is when yiou consider everything, their system in the EA games is pretty good
in terms of the Devisl team you see here its probably just the Demo, you'd be surprised at how much things change between the Demo and the actual game, it was like that last year too
Todd Cordell: A Look at the New Jersey Devils Ratings in NHL 13 - Todd.Cordell
things will definetly change between the demo and the real game coming out, the best view of team ratings is in the Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) mode where u can see the potential on players and can build them up to that or more, in which case the devils wont look so bad because ppl like Henrique and Adam Larsson have 90s potential |

this isnt about how good he will be, its about how good he is now next to crosby, is he as fast? nope, is he as good on faceoffs? nope, is he as good on D, nope,
u guys need to understand its an overall rating on their full skill level as hockey players (in which case there's more to account for than offensive ability), not an evaluation of how good a season they had |

Elias and Marty get completely screwed...and Larsson an 84???? Not yet i would of made him a 79 the highest... Bryce should be slightly better and tallinder and zid slightly worse then they are. |

I was so angry when the ratings came out. I actually went through every team and there are a laughable list of 102 FORWARDS that are ranked higher than Elias. I mean, i know just because you are top ten in points doesn't make you a top 10 player in the league but how could you make him not even a TOP 100 FORWARD
what a freakin joke |

something else you guys need to note is that there is a hidden stat of sort, for example despite the fact that (using the same example as many) Dubinsky is rated higher than Elias, you are still more likely to score what seems like a random shot with Elias than you would with Duby, this stat takes into account a player like Elias' natural knack for offense even if his overall rating isnt as good
its a sort of hockey sense type of stat maybe |

Elias still got some wheels and he is most definitely faster then dubi...come on. Elias has been a consistent two way force his whole career and was top 10 in pts last year...man deserves more respect. Hell of a lot more. Selanne too wtf is this two are still quality players i dont give a (frank) that they are old they still produce. And out produce a lot of this clowns rated higher. The entire oilers top 6 is not better then either one of ELias and selanne yet they are rated higher or the same... |
