If anything we have the Winter olympics to keep us busy in January I guess. Another thing i don't like, Pro athletes competing in an amateur event. The olympics should not include pro athletes in any event. Just my opine.
Here's a good story on why it's not a split with the NHLPA that's the issue, but rather revenue sharing between teams that is the real problem facing the NHL
Sad thing is, according to the National Post article, a full third of the NHL's revenue losses were due to Phoenix and Columbus, and that the profits made by Montreal and Toronto eclipse the losses endured by all the other teams combined. - Jsaquella
I wanna punch the guy right in the neck. The guy is ALWAYS scheming...

If the full season is lost, do the players who were scheduled to be UFA's at the end of the 2012-2013 season lose that status?
What a friggin mess. In the end the fans are the ones who get the shaft as usual. - PLindbergh31
Depends on how they are qualifying for UFA status. By age or by number of Accrued Seasons. Also depends on the new CBA. I don't see the entire Season being lost. But you never know.

The NHLPA would never agree to contraction. If you killed off 6 teams, you're losing at least 138 union jobs.
That said, I am all for contraction. - Jsaquella
While straight contraction is a non-starter, the PA would agree to relocation of the struggling franchises to more stable/lucrative markets, and/or the folding of struggling franchises followed immediately by expansion into Canada... they'd love for HRR to keep shooting up without sacrificing jobs.
With the NBC contract secured, it'll be easier for Bettman to back step from his insistence on maximizing the NHL's geographical footprint in the US -- there will probably be 8-9 teams in Canada by the end of the decade.

Absolutely! However, the drive from S. Jersey to Glens Falls, NY, will make it tough. The Flyers need to find a way to get the Phantoms back in the area. I propose basing the team in Trenton and creating an ECHL affiliate in Allentown or somewhere else nearby. - BOSS_TWEED
I may check them out when they are in Hershey and Wilkes. that is another aspect of not being in philly that sucks. we at least had the phantoms for the last lockout. I went to quite a few games and all of the playoffs

That is infinitely more feasible. I'd also be willing to see that happen. The Coyotes are a mess. They have had 15 years to see if the rose would bloom in the desert, and it hasn't. The combination of the strong Canadian dollar, plus the fanatic level of fan interest would turn the Coyotes as a organiztion bleeding money into a financially strong Quebec Nordique team with a renewed strong rivalry with the Habs

Why do we need two teams in Florida, too? Aren't one of those or both struggling? Just no common sense.
