I cant wait to see what Giroux gets. - stveshdy
Another reason why I don't have an issue with this contract. Hartnell has missed 3 games in the last 5 years. There is something to be said for that. He's earned this contract imo. |

I'm hearing the cap hit for Hartnell is $5.5 million per, so if my math is right, that would make it a $33 million deal. #Flyers - FLYERSROCK!
$5.5M is fine -- if it's front-loaded, that should mitigate the six-year term. |

He was going to spend $110 on Weber so why not sign some guys to extensions since we have it. |

They may have to trade three players to keep him and his cap hit. Especially if the new CBA only allows for 5 year deals max. |

He consistently plays the games and breaks the 20 goal mark (except, for 2009-10, though I think his playoffs were enough to look past it). I like keeping the oaf around. |

Hartnell annoyed me the first couple of years here. However, past 2 years, especially last year, he has really grown on me. He changed some for the better. Glad to see a character like that stay around awhile. Homer locking everyone up before there is a cap on years in new CBA |

Power forwards are notorious for major declines around age 32-35... and signing him right after a career year almost assures that he's snagged himself a healthy raise. Have to see the terms first, but a 3-4 year deal would have been ideal. - Tomahawk
Well, Hartnell has been thus far very Durable (Knock on wood). And I would point out that the whole point of signing everyone right now is to take advantage of the longer term Signing ability of the CBA and probably includes a front loaded deal to keep the whole thing cap friendly.
I'll be honest, the one guy I would like to sign to one of these extentions is Coburn. I have a feeling that for better or worse, he will be our #1 Defensemen once Kimmo retires.
edit: Darn just had the deal come out. 5.5 pretty good. |

Fair deal for both sides. I would prefer it be 4 yrs or 5 tops, but not that big of a deal. Power forwards who average around 25 goals a year for the better part of six years are going to get paid. |

I suppose we'll see, what with the CBA uncertainty. He won't be cheap though, that's for sure. |

Well, the attitude here on Hartnell has changed a lot since I was getting screamed down every time someone tried to trade him for a pair of new skate blades.

If you join the military to play sports you must be hard up for cash and really not that good anyway. The leagues you're talking about aren't quite "Pro" leagues, not much different than collegiate sports. |
