Nobody has done such a thing. Tartan69 questioned his motives, and I concurred while listing a general observation. |

I understand.. I try to never let things get personal, especially on the internet.
I just feel as though certain reporters/writers focus on everything negative, and ask misleading questions to drum up a story... that begins to get frustrating after awhile, and I'm not even in the player's shoes. I can only imagine how much patience and perfect wording it takes to deal with some members of the media. |

I agree wholeheartedly, some reporters do that and it gets really frustrating. I think it's better to call them out when these instances occur, though. I don't envy the media spotlight the players have to deal with.
EDIT: I will say, though, that I disagree with Tim's suggestion that not many clubs would offer Hartnell six years. |

There were multiple reports that a bunch of people are not very happy with Hartnell.. and understandably so (when looking at it from strictly a union perspective).
It would be like have an incorporated union fighting for rights of its workers, only to have one guy go out and "settle for less" just for security. Its a different dynamic being that the Union body is that of the NHLPA... and not say... USW or IBEW
I think Hartnell did what he felt was right in his heart... and nobody can question that. |

Naturally he did the right thing. What is wrong with a long term deal?
I don't think Harts is a 6m player.
If the union wants to impose its will on the free market, it will only accelerate the disdain many people have of unions in general.
Full disclosure - no disdain from this guy |

The most you can have of something is 100%. 100% is all of it. I was assuming from the way he said it that he knows that, and was cracking wise. |

No insult taken. With my approval rating, I'm happy with 30 percent agreement.
Besides, any old school WWF fan would appreciate Bob Backlund giving 110 percent every night. |

I remember when Keith Primeau re-signed with the Flyers in 2004 for what was considered "lesser money" going into the coming lockout and the PA was reportedly mad at him for accepting less than what he could have received on the open market.
This is not much different. A player is getting a NMC and sticking with the team of his choice. Those frustrated with his decision can pound sand because there is no quantifying satisfaction. |

The best part is the double middle finger guy. That ain't captain material but it sure is funny. Glad he is sticking around, to help keep the young guys loose. And did he do the "right" thing? Seriously? Is that a real question? That deal is a win win for all sides. If he had signed for under his last AVV then it would be an issue.
*THIS IS A NON-ISSUE. |

This just reminds me of all the idiots in P'burgh who picked up the "he disrepected a vet with cancer" story line, as if you'd know the clown in the Hulk Hogan getup wasn't merely a clown. |

Even if Hartnell knew he had cancer, he would still do it. It wasnt an insult to the guy, he way playing in his sandbox. The guy probably keeps that photo on his screensaver. I think they both got a laugh out of it.
Honestly, that guy and Harts are both clowns. If every player in the league was like Harts, it would be like the WWE.
Imo, the contract for Harts was good for both sides.
Would you trade Harts straight up for Neal? I would. That is why I think Harts deserves less. If he should be making 5.5 and he is making 5, any whining by the union is just that.
Good day! Cheers!

Apologies if my post came across poorly. What you've got to understand is that this goes far beyond blogging on HB. The behavior of sports reporters in Philadelphia is very frustrating, whether it is Panotch or Eskin or any of those other knuckleheads on 610 or the Inky/DN that try to inject themselves in the story and create divisions on the teams that just don't exist. It is not professional, and it is painful for fans to take.
But in the spirit of not causing drama myself, I'll take a timeout from posting any more about it. I'll just read stick to reading Meltzer.

Yeah, thanks for dropping. I'm known around here not only as a supporter of Eskin, but also a defender. |
