They learned that:
1. They can take away hockey and fans will side with them
2. They can punish the players with a year worth of lost wages
3. They can take away a year of their careers
4. They can get the players to succumb to all of their demands
5. They will not come close to losing money compared to what they gain
6. The fans will come back in droves
7. They can paint "Thank You" on the ice and it will all be okay
8. They can nominally lower ticket prices then raise them 175% over the CBA term
9. Fans will drive revenues to increase 300%
10. They can do what they want because they're the owners - mayorofangrytown

People read too much into public statements made between two parties in the midst of a negotiation. - bradleyc4
Like, what are we supposed to do Brad, pick up a freaking novel and read that. It's a CBA summer man... |

I know it's all we have to go on, but you (speaking generally) can choose to not overreact to each and every statement.

Eklund:
I am still waiting for the green light to go with my interview lengthy interview from yesterday with one source from the NHL and one source from the NHLPA, but I just found out the following news...pretty shocking...
According to a source familiar with the NHLPA's proposal, "Part of the PA's proposal allows for Bettman 2 arbitrarily assign the #1 pick in the draft to a financially distressed team."
are they effing kidding me??????????????? that is ridiculous |

How the heck can the league just give away the number pick to a financially strapped team?
That would be like Crosby coming out in the draft and the league giving him to Pitt to save their franchise. Will never happen. - Daman

if one chooses to use "you" instead of "one" i'm pretty sure it can be construed as a personal attack.

I agree it may be a personal attack, for the simple reason that I have never seen anyone overreact on HB since I started posting. |

Don't you judge me BradleyC4! You know how much I love to run around with what hair I have left wildly on fire screaming about the end of the NHL as we know and if you'll remember when they came back last time ... I WAS RIGHT!!!
This is all just a money grab BradleyC4. You know it. I know it. FF16 knows it. Hell even Bo and her nasty mood and OB with his poor vision can see it!
It's time to hitch your caboose to the Doomsday Express and get on track. |

There's going to be a lock out.
Betteman is trying to strong arm the PA again and now with Fehr, it's not going to happen. Quite frankly, it shouldn't happen.
The owners will make their money and then hide it away claiming a loss.
I hope people don't think Snider doesn't isn't recieving some additional money on top of owning a percentage of the Flyers. Easy money = parking
He gets a cut of that and I bet it's not included in profit column when it comes to the Flyers revenue.
The owners want a fail safe system against themselves. The players want equal rights. It's a lockout.
The only ways the league will listen is if the FANS stay away and in Philly I highly doubt that will happen. Maybe in the small markets it will happen but not in the big cities.
I will be re-thinking my FANship depending on how long the lock out is... |

Great work Bill, as usual. I was on espn and read the best hockey article I've ever read on there.... i would recommend it to all of you. That second response is the best part and is why I'm recommending it.

I can't say I'm reconsidering my fandom. At the same time, I can't promise my interest won't dwindle should a lockout drag on. |

Guess your a fan of Nick Foles behind center? Not sure the defense is going to be that good. Like the defensive line a lot but the LB's are a work in progress and the safties are questionable. Should be better than last year though. |

I don't think reconsidering fandom is necessary. All one has to do is for at least a season, not purchase merchandise and stay home or go out to a bar/restaurant to enjoy the game. At least put the money you would give the greedy owners into the pockets of the local businesses. |
