Then he's probably looking to pay in water or ammunition. That is, if course, only if his trading partner doesn't just shoot him and take his stuff - BulliesPhan87

Bill (if you're still lurking around), why would a team leave off a player's name from the SC like the Hawks did with Johnson? Is there a limit to the number of players names you can engrave? Sounds creepy if there are no restrictions.
FYI, Jimmy Watson averaged a plus 39 between the years 1973 through 1980 which included two years of a plus 53 and 65.
Not too shabby. |

Player has to play 40 games or one game in the SCF to be eligible. Teams can petition the NHL to allow others to be included. For goalies, I believe it's 25 games |

Boyle for 2nd and young prospect such as Manning, Gus, or Bourdon. Interested? I know many people don't want Boyle as he is getting older. - stveshdy
I'd do it but San Jose would tell us to place that trade somewhere unpleasant. Many teams would want Boyle. A #1 D and first Unit PP QB? Guy is a warrior. Righty with a Cannon shot and puts up close to 50 points a year? His age becomes a non factor when you realize the supply and demand of Defensemen of his ilk. I doubt we are getting Boyle(for that).
My thought is to try to pull Jordan Leopold outta Buffalo for a second. They are overstacked on D. They gave Doan a monster offer while still needing to resign Ennis. They will need to shed Salary if they get Doan. Leopold's got one year left at 4 mil and can step into a 3/4 spot. It ain't sexy, but it'll do.
Edit, my bad he makes 3 mil.
Don't get me wrong I'd rather have Boyle and I don't think Leopold gives us anything but a solid 3/4 guy whose numbers are close to Coburn's. But he would cost us a lot less then we'd spend on Jay-Bo or Boyle. |

OK. Thanks.
This was the only reason I had asked...
The Blackhawks did not request that the 34-year-old defensemen's name be placed on the Stanley Cup -- it was a team option because he played so few regular season games and no playoff matches that year...as per Bill.
Edit: that was Jimmy Watson and not Johnson I was referring to as an FYI to Bill's blog. Don't know why I wrote Johnson (thinking of Kim Johnsson probably). |

yea I didn't want to ask out of fear of being laughed at for not remembering players from the 70's but I was pretty sure there was no such player. |

Actually Jimmy Johnson was one of the original Flyers.
He was traded to the Kings in '72 with Bill Lesuk and Serge Bernier for Eddie Joyal, Jean Potvin, Ross Lonsberry and Bill Cowbot Flett. |

I'd rather have Sekera than Leopold, but that's just me.

Nail Yakupov is the only one that'll definitely stick around all year.
I'd like to think Ryan Murray does too, but the Jackets are stacked on D. With Wisniewski, Tyutin, Johnson, Aucoin, and Nikitin, Murray has to essentially fight for that last spot with John Moore, David Savard, and Tim Erixon.
Radek Faksa will be given a long look by the Stars as well, but I expect him to ultimately go back to London. |
