Players salaries will automatically be rolled back by the same percentage that the Cap is rolled back.
- MJL

what does that mean exactly? that a player who negotiated X during the existing CBA will actually have whatever the rollback percentage is eliminated from his contract? or is it some kind of deferred payment separate from the cap itself?

Probably the former. The balance of the player's contract -- base salary, at least -- would be rolled back. But by how much, we'll see.

Here's a good story on cap negotiations and what they mean:

Not counting singing bonus money. But a players base salary will be reduced by the percentage.

Just like the last time when the players took a 24% rollback.

Exactly. And that's a big part of the reason why the Flyers loaded up their offer sheet to Shea Weber with so much of it in signing bonus form. It's guaranteed money, which the Predators must pay in full (assuming Weber NTC issue is resolved and he signs his contract by December) regardless of the new CBA.

Seems like a poor idea if you ask me.

Does anyone have an estimate of league wide revenues (TV, tickets, parking, concessions, etc), G&A costs, salary costs, and other?

I still have a hard time believing that contract won't be a hardship on them.

It seems like from reading the latest, one of the key battlefronts is who is going to pay the bill for the increased Revenue sharing, that both side know is needed.

which makes me believe Weber could still be a Flyer eventually.

There is a lottery with a hundred balls. The Flyers get 26 balls, so they end up with a 1 in 4 chance essentially.

You are correct. The Preds are going to give him most of that money in the first year with that signing bonus. They wanted to show their fans they are committed to winning, it would go against everything they just did by trading Weber (after the 1st year).

Is there any contracts that were in place from the last CBA until this current one. If so will they get rolled back twice?

I just read that any contracts already signed would stand and they would meet the roll back across the board with increased escrow.

"According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the salary cap for next season would drop from the current temporary $70.2 million all the way to $58 million under this new proposal. The Flyers are one of 16 teams currently exceeding that $58 million number. Rather than undergo a salary rollback to trim the cap by that number with current contracts, players would give up far more in escrow to ensure a proper revenue share."

During the last lockout I wondered how much longer they could continue to raise ticket prices and maintain a fan base. Well, they crushed it and what do the Flyers have. They have a season ticket base that is starting to reflect the New Jersey Devils. People and companies who buy the seats for the playoffs then give away the regular season tickets to clients and employees. That's why most week nights the lower bowl is rarely close to being filled with vast expanses of open red seats.

He has til December 1 to sign. If not, the Predators can toll his contract for the season. Either which way, he has no choice but to play for Nashville.

But I doubt it will come to that. At some point soon, if he doesn't get the NTC he wants, Weber will just concede it and sign. It would be utterly foolish not to.

my family has season tickets with about 6 people buying in...but if prices increase it's going to make even tougher to keep them. For one, I've reduced the number of games I want to go to anymore because of the in game crap, that cannot stand and I have other alternatives to spend my money. So, that leaves 4 people coming up with a pretty penny.

Do you think that the preds can fall back on that like the Devils and Flyers though? I mean Hockey isn't anywhere near being close top dog down there.

I dropped mine at the end of the season after 20+ years. I couldn't give tickets away last season. I sold pairs for a case of beer. Too much wasted money. The fringe fan is gone. They spend their money on Phillies tickets now.
