I dropped mine at the end of the season after 20+ years. I couldn't give tickets away last season. I sold pairs for a case of beer. Too much wasted money. The fringe fan is gone. They spend their money on Phillies tickets now. - mayorofangrytown
I'm sure if there's a salary rollback, there will be a corresponding ticket price rollback. |

Do you think that the preds can fall back on that like the Devils and Flyers though? I mean Hockey isn't anywhere near being close top dog down there. - JoeRussomanno
No. They absolutely can't. There's a different dynamic at work. Philly fans/corporations know that the only way to get Playoff tickets in to invest in season tickets or face the secondary market. In Nashville, with 14,000 season ticket holders, there are playoff tickets available to the public and I would guess you could walk up and get first round tickets.
Still, if I were the flyers, I'd be worried about the makeup of my ticket base. Right now they're feeding off of the high end spenders but those entities can be fickle and cold about their monetary decisions. Real fans embed themselves for the long haul. I think they're pricing those fans out of the arena. |

the flyers most definitely have priced out the real fans. Which leads me to believe that if Nashville gets into the big contract game like they have with Weber they won't last long and will be forced to move some of those big contracts or move the franchise.
Getting back to the Flyers tho, I think that bubble will burst and when it does they'll still land on their feet. If they have those big money spenders back out, they'll drop their prices and people will be kicking the doors down to buy. |

Thats Nashville's problem now. I still can't believe that they would match the Flyers offer. |

I just dont see the point in matching the offer and waiting a year to trade Weber when the most $ being put out is the first year. Why trade him after that point when his money isnt anything near that signing bonus in year one? |

I'm sure they had talks but the Flyers weren't going to give in b/c they probably felt that Nashville wouldnt match the offer sheet (just my guess). |

because they got backed into a corner with choosing between taking a blow to their finances or settling on a trade they don't like, now by matching it buys them time to get a better offer.
It's kinda like getting shot then telling the doctor to not bother removing the bullet because you lost a pint of blood. |

Financially the first year is the big commitment. If the Preds are willing to pay that year I don't see why the rest of his contract will be an issue. Thats just my opinion. Trading him still sends the wrong message to fans. |

What kind of message is it going to send when they can't afford to put a team around him? |

I personally dont have all their finances so I dont know what kind of team they can ice or will ice for that matter. They still have a pretty good team coming back next year. |

their finances have been discussed ad nausea um on this very thread. The contract is being fueled from the owner's personal pocket, it's going to put a kink in their line. If there's any kind of lockout and they miss the playoff or don't go deep, they might very well be begging teams to take weber before getting slammed with next payment come July 2013. |

Obviously they have the money b/c they matched the offer. So will see what happens but I don't see the Preds moving Weber (after one year). |

Their finances have been discussed, but the verified details are still not available. And I don't think they'll have problems finding a market (EDIT: a market that will pay handsomely) for Weber if they feel the need to trade him. He's not Rick DiPietro. |

Yea the owners personal money. How long until he says no mas? Imo that was an emotional decision not a business one to match. Even if they took the first four rounders it would have set them up nicely, been done plenty of times before in sports. |

The way they pursued me all season to renew and the concessions they offered me convinced me that the season ticket base was going to take a hit but I heard that select-a-seat offered very few options so I guess they had mostly renewals.
I know that they were planning on raising my seat prices 25% for the person who was purchasing them next season. They had held my price for two seasons at 35 a seat and they were planning on charging 45 per. |
