Yea the owners personal money. How long until he says no mas? Imo that was an emotional decision not a business one to match. Even if they took the first four rounders it would have set them up nicely, been done plenty of times before in sports. - JoeRussomanno
Can't argue that. I didn't think they had the money to match but they proved me wrong. Only they know exactly what they can spend and how much money they have. |

Their finances have been discussed, but the verified details are still not available. And I don't think they'll have problems finding a market (EDIT: a market that will pay handsomely) for Weber if they feel the need to trade him. He's not Rick DiPietro. - BulliesPhan87
No they won't have trouble that's the point and I don't see what's there to say, yea this will work out. The owner already had to dig into his own pocket. Unless Nashville becomes the new hockeytown next year, they're in up to their gills. Like I discussed earlier, can they survive if they start raising prices to retain top-shelf players? I seriously doubt they can. They aren't in Philly, Ny or Detroit, they're in Nashville. |

The owners definitely had the money themselves, I just thought as billionaires they had the sense to not make an emotional decision like that. |

the flyers most definitely have priced out the real fans. Which leads me to believe that if Nashville gets into the big contract game like they have with Weber they won't last long and will be forced to move some of those big contracts or move the franchise.
Getting back to the Flyers tho, I think that bubble will burst and when it does they'll still land on their feet. If they have those big money spenders back out, they'll drop their prices and people will be kicking the doors down to buy. - JoeRussomanno
How far would the bottom have to drop out for them to consider rolling back prices. Sixers level? I can't see the Flyers getting to that point. I'm sure there were a lot of raised voices in the offices when Bettman announced that most fans could expect ticket price decreases after the last CBA. What small concession they made they've more than obliterated with increases in the ensuing years. |

The way they pursued me all season to renew and the concessions they offered me convinced me that the season ticket base was going to take a hit but I heard that select-a-seat offered very few options so I guess they had mostly renewals.
I know that they were planning on raising my seat prices 25% for the person who was purchasing them next season. They had held my price for two seasons at 35 a seat and they were planning on charging 45 per. - mayorofangrytown
i think the fan base will take a hit, if this sh!t continues. But, that's just me.
My seats were in that range as well and then you throw in the fact we pay for parking in advance, it gets a little high. But, as noted, i've learned to invest my money elsewhere and that's what the older (priced out fans) fans are learning to do. I also enjoy my seats but it's the same section of the crap in game talent which i cannot stand, as i have mentioned on this board from time to time. It's been played out...terrible marketing department if they really think a huge guy dancing is entertainment. I digress...
Add onto that, the food and drinks...very costly these days.

you got a point there. I was just saying that if the big money spenders backed out, and if the tickets still didn't move, they could as a last resort drop prices a tad to survive. |

He was a section over from us. Every time we have an obnoxious drunk I send them his way in the third period. "Dude... you should go dance with Shawny. He loves that." |

Their reasoning was they couldn't let the next Bobby Orr get away, that's not business that's emotional. |

oh great thanks...LOL
I did see a few times when another person jumped in or a little kid a row down got on camera during his jello-o dance number and he got visibly upset. |

Yes, they definitely have a strong fan base that they can draw on if times get tough but if I was them I'd add three more sections of family affordable seating up stairs and make up the money in the club level seating right away. That's a sure fire way to keep regular fans in the arena without losing a dollar. |

They usually get my guys before they get on camera. By the third period it's a good way to get rid of them with out having to make a scene in my section plus it's f'n hilarious to watch unfold.

I can't disagree more. They're a young franchise and a playoffs contender, keeping the top defenseman in the league as part of their core is a definitely a business decision. You can muse that the alternative had equal, greater, or safer business growth, but that's supposition (as is any discussion of their financials). I'd also submit that winning investments often involve a great deal of risk. |

All I know is that I have been to two games since the lockout. Before that I had partial season tix. But now I am one of those who have been priced out, and am on the verge of being priced out by Comcast to be able to afford the minimal package that contains Comcast Sports Net.
Pretty soon I might not even be able to watch the games on TV.
They can all suck my balls.

I took it to the tune of nearly 30%. Overall company gross is down 10% over the same time period. Work force was also cut by 20%. Insurance coverage cut. Hmmmmmm... wonder where that money is going?
What? The owners daughter had a Paris wedding? Nice new Caddy @sshole... Thanks for using the recession to your advantage.
