I took it to the tune of nearly 30%. Overall company gross is down 10% over the same time period. Work force was also cut by 20%. Insurance coverage cut. Hmmmmmm... wonder where that money is going?

What? The owners daughter had a Paris wedding? Nice new Caddy @sshole... Thanks for using the recession to your advantage.

In my case the union was offered a deal. Take a one year pay freeze and everyone can keep their jobs, or demand your 5% raise and ten people get let go. They demanded the raise. I was let go. Found a new job a year later at 80% of what I was making.

Needless to say Im not fond of that particular union.

I can't disagree more. They're a young franchise and a playoffs contender, keeping the top defenseman in the league as part of their core is a definitely a business decision. You can muse that the alternative had equal, greater, or safer business growth, but that's supposition (as is any discussion of their financials). I'd also submit that winning investments often involve a great deal of risk.
- BulliesPhan87

They don't have the finances generated from the team itself. how often do you hear of an owner digging into his own personal pocket to foot the bill beyond purchasing the team?

Well we've had two presidents admit to drug use in my life, one a draft dodger the other just went awol from his guard unit until his daddy could get him off the hook, an alleged illegal alien, I'm sure we can work something out.

Do you think it would be a good thing or a bad thing that they won't let me into Canada?

Their reasoning was they couldn't let the next Bobby Orr get away, that's not business that's emotional.
- JoeRussomanno

It's emotional to sign the best defenseman in the league? That sounds more like a business move to show the fans they are committed to winning and keep their players around.

its emotional when his pay for two years takes more than a third of your revenue and your owner has to dig into his own pocket.

He's a top asset in the entire industry. Nobody's contesting the risk of such an enormous investment, but when you're trying to grow the brand you have to take that kind of gamble.

We have no idea what they actually have. The loss of Weber could be just as concerning as signing him. You lose Suter and Weber in the same offseason and its going to be hard to sell that to your fans and sponsorships, etc.

How much more room for growth is there in Nashville? They've been there for more than 10 years. What you see is what you get.

How so? Has there been a great mecca of hockey fans to the nashville area? I don't think so. It's a small market and there's been more than enough time for it to grow out of that label.

Well wherever it's been posted, it's not this thread. And it's probably not anywhere except with the Predators' and the owners' banks. I've seen a picture with unverified numbers, but where exactly are you getting this financial data? And where's the data on how investing in a top player in the game will sink a franchise?

If you've posted it before, I'm confident you can post it again.

Because you're literally just branding that franchise and area with an arbitrary cap on their ability to grow. This is literally the definition of supposition.

they've had ample time to grow. It's not like they just opened the doors last year.

I just read that any contracts already signed would stand and they would meet the roll back across the board with increased escrow.

"According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the salary cap for next season would drop from the current temporary $70.2 million all the way to $58 million under this new proposal. The Flyers are one of 16 teams currently exceeding that $58 million number. Rather than undergo a salary rollback to trim the cap by that number with current contracts, players would give up far more in escrow to ensure a proper revenue share."
