You are entitled to follow the game how you see fit. No need to apologize to anyone.

As for myself, I believe the NHL -- while it is far and away the best league in the world -- may be the center of the hockey universe but is far from the entire universe. There are plenty of quality hockey leagues, each with their own rivalries, team traditions and distinct atmospheres.

Beyond that, the game is played all over the world, including places you'd least expect. Perhaps my favorite article that I ever wrote was a story of the Greek national team players fighting for a rink to be built in Athens so that they could train to participate in the IIHF Division III World Championships (against all odds, they actually succeeded for a few years in being admitted to play).

Here's a bit of perspective. Do you know that a few hours after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in Philly, the ice was back in use for a local game? All those players cared about was their own game.

Hockey season truly never ends. There's a semi-pro league regular season getting underway in Australia (where it winter when its summer in the northern hemisphere) shortly after the Stanley Cup is awarded. In the northern hemisphere, there are summer leagues, and the junior and European preseason tourneys each August. The European regular seasons get underway in early to mid September. There's the CHL and NCAA, etc.

Personally, I love all of it. But I'd never fault someone who cares only about the NHL or even cares only about the Flyers. That's for each individual to determine.

And I didn't mean to imply you would be judgemental. Truthfully, you are the only reason that many people (Flyers fans) visit this website. Present company included.

I don't really even have time to sleep, or watch the NHL. But many times last year I would miss the game and watch the re-run instead. Nothing better than NHL hockey live. Time permitting, I watch some of the other teams. But my job/profession is not nearly as fun as yours! Jealous for sure.

Regards,

-Da Man.

That's crazy. Being a huge Flyers fan, I can't imagine playing on the same ice HOURS after the Stanley Cup was awarded--to the wrong team!

How does one go about watching Euro-hockey? Can you go to the league's homepage and subscribe to a package like with center-ice?

edit: i refuse to pay 600 bucks for the ahl package but am open to whatever the cost is for one of the euro leagues.

Any word on Leighton's plans if there is a lockout? I'm hoping he can get some playing time somewhere.

There are webcast packages available but sometimes they are not made available outside Europe. However, the sites that offer the league broadcasts often post free game highlights within a couple hours of the conclusion of each game (SM-liiga does this, for instance).

On a daily basis, you can check this site: http://www.sportlemon.tv/c-3.html . They almost always have a variety of KHL games (for free) and you can also sometimes catch Czech Extraliga games, Elitserien and Allsvenskan as well as various IIHF tournaments. They NEVER have links to Sm-liiiga games, unfortunately, but you can often catch Elitserien playoffs/playdowns throughout.

Also, and you didn't hear this from me , but if you don't get NHL Game Center or can't otherwise see a blacked-out Flyers telecast, you may also want to click on the Sportlemon site at night.

Because I'm in Philly in months where the Flyers have a heavy concentration of home games but in Texas in months where the Flyers are mostly on the road, I have to rely on my Game Center in the months when I'm away. Nothing is more aggravating than a blacked-out game I want to see -- which is also not necessarily available on TV -- on a service I'm paying for.

On those nights, I do use the Sportlemon site to catch the Flyers broadcast, since it's my only way to see the game.

Me too. I did not see him at prospect camp but reading through the lines of the reports, I like what people were saying. And researching his Collegiate Career I feel like Homer's got several good goalie prospects down the pike with Heeter & Hoivenan. Plus Cal Heeter? Come on, that's a great hockey name. Right up their with Blake Wheeler and Jon Quick.

I think he will eventually make this Flyers club in a few years. Heeter has a lot of confidence and you need that playing between the pipes. It's a mental position and you have to believe in your skills. I like Heeter a lot and hope he can be a contributor to this club at some point in the future.

I agree. Everybody can find their own level of interest in the varying leagues. There is no right or wrong in loving the game at any specific league level.

Some of us are intensely fixated on our kids teams. I know my interest in Bantam level hockey tails off as the boys and girls that my son has played with move up. My interest in Bantam hockey is waning while my interest in 16u has peaked and 18u is quickly increasing.

I've found that while I've become occupied by Tier II and Tier I hockey locally my interest in NHL hockey has had to take a hit just because of the time commitment. I can't get into arguments on these threads like I used to because I don't follow the NHL with the same vigor I used to.

I'm still a huge fan of the game at all levels but you have to balance what's important to you and if the only horse you have in the race is the Flyers then by all means, go all in unapologetically.

Yeah, I'm fine going down to the local street rink and watching the kids play (and heckling the refs ), but it still would be nice if this CBA could get worked out.

I've had that same dish on my roof unused for the last ten years. Pointed directly south.
